Johnny Depp starrer 'Jeanne Du Barry' releases trailer ahead of Cannes Film Festival debut
PARIS, FRANCE: Johnny Depp’s much-anticipated movie ‘Jeanne Du Barry’ has just dropped its trailer and it is nothing less than what fans expected. The flick, which had its share of controversy features ‘The Pirates of the Caribbean’ star as King Louis XV. The French flick is directed by Maiwenn who is also the director and plays opposite Depp. It is also the ‘What’s Eating Gilbert Grapes’ actor's comeback movie after his ugly trial with ex-wife Amber Heard.
‘Jeanne Du Barry’ is set to open the 2023 Cannes Film Festival on May 16 and make its way into French movie theatres simultaneously. The makers have not yet decided on a US release date and its trailer does not include English subtitles as it is made solely for the French market. "Jeanne Vaubernier, a young working-class woman hungry for culture and pleasure, uses her intelligence and allure to climb the rungs of the social ladder one by one. She becomes the favorite of King Louis XV, who, unaware of her status as a courtesan, regains through her his appetite for life. They fall madly in love. Against all propriety and etiquette, Jeanne moves to Versailles where her arrival scandalizes the court," reads an official synopsis of the movie. The other cast members comprise Melvil Poupaud, Pierre Richard, Pascal Greggory, India Hair, and Benjamin Lavernhe.

'It was a life of great hardship'
Depp is also ready to direct the movie ‘Modi,’ based on the play Modigliani by Dennis McIntyre. The flick is about the Italian-born painter and sculptor Amedeo Modigliani in Paris in 1916. The ‘Alice in Wonderland’ hitmaker said in a press release, "The saga of Mr Modigliani's life is one that I'm incredibly honored and truly humbled, to bring to the screen. It was a life of great hardship, but eventual triumph — a universally human story all viewers can identify with."
'It’s madness. They’re off'
Coming back to 'Jeanne du Barry,' it was reported that the movie could end up in a cold bag as Johnny Depp had several heated altercations on the sets of the film with director Maiwenn. Depp is an excellent actor when he comes on the set… Except that sometimes the team is ready at 6 am and no one comes. So, afterward, Maiwenn gets angry and the next day, it is she who does not come and there is Johnny Depp… It’s madness. They’re (expletive) off,” claimed French showbiz commentator Bernard Montiel.
