PARIS, FRANCE: Johnny Depp -- who plays King Louis XV in 'Jeanne du Barry' -- reportedly had a number of heated altercations on the sets of the film with director Maiwenn.

The Hollywood actor, 59, is all set to make a comeback with the French film 'Jeanne Du Barry' -- formerly titled 'La Favorite' -- after he won a sensational defamation case against ex-wife Amber Heard, 36. Depp is set to take on the role of King Louis XV in the film, which is directed by acclaimed flimmaker Maïwenn. The movie has dominated headlines since Depp came on board and is currenlty in the post-production stage. However, latest reports claimed that Depp had a difficult time filming the project -- apparently having several verbal spats with the director on a number of occasions.

According to Hindustan Times, French showbiz commentator Bernard Montiel claimed in a recent talk show appearance that Depp had numerous altercations with Maiwenn that lead to a series of arguments on the set. The arguments were reportedly over timing issues. “Depp is an excellent actor when he comes on the set… Except that sometimes the team is ready at 6 am and no one comes. So, afterward, Maiwenn gets angry and the next day, it is she who does not come and there is Johnny Depp… It’s madness. They’re (expletive) off.” Montiel revealed on the talk-show TPMP about the time 'Jeanne' was being filmed. It's worth noting that Maïwenn also stars as 'Jeanne du Barry' in the film, which will release in 2023. “It’s going very, very badly. They argue constantly,” Montiel added.

Depp was looking forward to reprising his role for the sixth film in the 'Pirates' franchise but the project came to a halt when his defamation lawsuit versus Heard led to further media speculations. It later emerged that Disney had canceled the project altogether in the wake of the abuse allegations leveled by Heard. The 'Pirates of the Caribbean' star sued his ex-wife in March 2019 for $50M over an op-ed in The Washington Post she penned in 2018, in which she described herself as a "public figure representing domestic abuse."

MEAWW previously reported how Heard settled the defamation case with Depp. In an Instagram post on Monday, December 19, the actress said that settling the case was "very difficult" but that she felt it was the right thing to do "after a great deal of deliberation." She lashed out at being re-victimized on coming forward about the abuse she had endured. "It’s important for me to say that I never chose this. I defended my truth and in doing so my life as I knew it was destroyed. The vilification I have faced on social media is an amplified version of the ways in which women are re-victimized when they come forward," Heard wrote. The pair’s lawyers have reached a deal that will see her insurance company pay Depp $1M.

In her statement, Heard framed the settlement as a last resort, characterizing it as "an opportunity to emancipate myself from something I attempted to leave over six years ago and on terms I can agree to." "I have made no admission. This is not an act of concession. There are no restrictions or gags with respect to my voice moving forward," she added.
