Johnny Depp set to make surprise appearance at MTV VMAs 2022 dressed as iconic Moonman
NEWARK, NEW JERSEY: If reports are to be believed, Johnny Depp will make an appearance at the MTV VMAs scheduled to be held in Newark, New Jersey, on Sunday, August 28. That's not all, he is reported to come dressed as the iconic spaceman that has long been the trophy figure of the event.
This comes after Depp spent the chunk of this year battling it out with his ex-wife, Amber Heard in the infamous defamation trial that was televised for all to see. According to TMZ, he will also show his face at some point during the award show.

If the rumor turns out to be true, the prestigious award ceremony will mark the return of the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' actor on the small screen. An insider from the show's production has revealed that the actor intends to shock the audience - both the attendees and viewers alike.
Depp's choice of turning heads at the VMAs may also come from his lucrative history with the prestigious awards show. He has been the recipient of five MTV Movie Awards after being nominated for eight. These include the Best Male Performance, Best Performance, Best Comedic Performance, Best Villain, Global Superstar and the Generation Award in 2012. Three out of five were for the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' franchise alone. The fourth was for 'Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street'. Notably, Depp had been nominated for the 'Global Superstar' award in 2010 which he lost out to Robert Pattinson.
The news has been well-received among his fans. Taking to Twitter, one user writes, "Can't wait to see" while another calls it the "Best news ever!" Someone else criticized the move, writing that they are "Embarrassed for him," adding that "He’s so desperate for any scrap Hollywood will toss him."

With the conclusion of the defamation trial, Depp is keen to move on both personally and professionally. Recently, he re-signed a new 7-figure deal with the luxury brand Dior. With this, he will continue to remain the face of their 'Sauvage' line of fragrances. On the work front too, the 59-year-old actor has begun filming a major movie role. Starring in a historical love story 'Jeanne du Barry', Depp will be seen as King Louis XV. The film will be directed by French director Maïwenn Le Besco who will also star alongside Depp.
A promotional image from the historical period drama revealed the first look of his character, which is quintessentially Johnny Depp, as in, he is simply unrecognizable. He has donned a blonde wig while a black blindfold covers most of his face, barring his red-tinted lips. This is even more highlighted against his lightened skin as opposed to his natural tan. His attire is designed to suit the 18th-century timeline.
