After being delayed for six months, the 55th annual Academy of Country Music Awards is finally happening on Wednesday, September 16. The awards ceremony was initially scheduled to take place on April 5, 2020, in Las Vegas but just like every other major event, ACMs also got delayed due to the pandemic. For the first time in the history of ACMs, the award ceremony took place at Nashville and will be broadcasting from three different venues — the Grand Ole Opry House, Nashville's historic Ryman Auditorium and The Bluebird Cafe. The division happened in order to follow safety norms amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

The award night witnessed the stellar performance by Jimmie Allen at The Bluebird Café. The singer stole the show with his single, 'Make Me Want To'. The 31-year-old singer tweeted before his performance, "Crazy to think how 3 years ago I didn’t have a record deal and was dreaming of having a #1 song and playing the ACMs. Well tonight it happens. Never give up on yourself and no dream is ever too big to accomplish.@ACMawards"

Chatting with PeopleTV's Jeremy Parsons on the ACMs red carpet, the singer said he's stoked to hit the stage for the first time. "Well, it's my first time performing," the singer told PEOPLE exclusively. "Definitely wish my grandmother and my father could have been here to see it. But it means a lot, man. It's just a testament to people believing in you. Hard work and never giving up on yourself." As soon as his performance started people started complimenting him on social media. One user said, "I’m so impressed!!! Blown away!!!! Lord we need live concerts back immediately so I can see you !!!!" "Your voice is perfect for country love the new song! Thank you for sharing your voice," wrote another.

Some fans praised him and said, "I remember u 3 years ago u freaking OWNED that @BBRMusicGroup show.... I said to @JessicaOnAirDj this guy now that’s a star u watch ... thank u for proving me right and being such a amazing guest on my shows !!"

Another encouraged the young artiste and said, "It gives me a great deal of hope to see young artists like @JimmieAllen , @MickeyGuyton, and @kanebrown carve their own paths in country music — and have LEGIT success. Country really is for everyone — and the more diverse voices / experiences we can get, the more folks will see"
