LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The CW's 'Supernatural' prequel spinoff 'The Winchesters' has created a lot of buzz amongst 'Supernatural' fans for its great storytelling and for fulfilling their desire to see their favorite character Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) once again. The prequel spinoff has done everything right to fit into the 'Supernatural' universe and has created a story compelling enough to believe that it fits into the universe of the original show.

After John (Drake Rodger) and Mary (Meg) defeat the Akrida once and for all, Jensen explains that he has been beating around the bush. In this spinoff, he is from another world entirely and the reason for him to snoop around was to ultimately keep Akrida away from his world and protect Sam (Jared Padalecki) who is safe and well. In a recent interview, Jensen Ackles talks about his return to the show as Dean and what he has been up to since the story took a multiverse route.

Talking with Entertainment Weekly, Ackles spilled beans about his return to the prequel and what went on in the heads of the makers to take quite an unusual route in the story, "It would have been a fool's errand to try and box ourselves in with what had been created on Supernatural," Ackles said. "We would be boxed in by that. In order to get our two heroes together and make it make sense in that timeframe, it had to be messed with. And the only way to really mess with that was just to make it a completely separate, alternate thing, which luckily the mothership had established with Chuck when he was like, 'I've made multiverses and you guys are my favorite,' So, we knew that there was still stuff out there. And then also to tether it to the fact that, oh, if this was a fail safe that Chuck created, how many other fail safes does he have?" according to Entertainment Weekly.

Will 'The Winchesters' have a Season 2?

Ackles also explained that the multiverse route takes the story beyond the 'Supernatural' storyline and in a way preserves the foundation of the story the prequel is based on. "Everybody's like, 'I can't believe you're gonna mess with the show's lore,' and it's like, 'Hang on, just trust us.' And in fact, it plays right into it," Ackles said. "You've got Bobby, you've got Jack, you've got the fact that Sam is still on Earth, and here's Dean, literally in heaven trying to do things to protect the life his brother's living. So, it furthers the lore." As of now, the prequel spinoff series hasn't been renewed for another season, but the showrunner Robbie Thompson seems to be planning to take the story further, so we might see more seasons to the series.
