Meta layoffs behind talk show cancellation
According to Deadline, amid broad cost-cutting moves, Meta is shuttering the Facebook Watch originals group, whose small slate of shows included the hit 'Red Table Talk' hosted by Jada Pinkett Smith series producer Westbrook is shopping the series elsewhere. Smith’s cohosts are her daughter Willow and her mother Adrienne Banfield Norris. The cancellation of the Emmy-winning series comes as Mina Lefevre, Head of Development and Programing at Facebook Watch, exits the tech company amid the most recent round of Meta layoffs.
A new beginning for 'The Red Table Talk'
Although there have been many interesting episodes in the last five seasons of 'The Red Table Talk,' but the show's one episode which stands out is where the show played host to an explosive discussion between Jada and Will in 2020 where the two detailed their marital difficulties as well as Pinkett Smith’s "entanglement” with singer August Alsina. Over the course of its run, there have been many notable discussions on co-parenting, love, sex, relationships, abuse, and substance abuse, toxic masculinity, career, and more. Apart from Jada's husband, other guests featured on the show that have trended include Robyn Crawford, Sheree Fletcher, Toni Braxton, Kid Cudi, Don Lemon, Jordyn Woods, Ciara, Demi Moore, Bobby Brown, and Ashanti. Nevertheless, the 'Red Table Talk' series is produced by Westbrook Studios, cofounded by Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith; the company is said to be looking for a new distributor now that the Facebook Watch deal is finished.
