NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Fox News shockingly parted ways with Tucker Carlson and announced that the ‘Tucker Carlson Tonight’ host broadcasted his final show on Friday, April 21. The announcement left fans of the political commentator extremely disappointed, with some saying “Fox News made a big mistake” by firing the host who has been associated with the network since 2009 and has been considered as a face of the channel over the past few years.

The announcement came days after Fox News’ parent company settled a defamation lawsuit with Dominion Voting Systems worth over $787 million. “Fox News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways. We thank him for his service to the network as a host and prior to that as a contributor,” the network said in a statement on Monday, April 24. The company also said that ‘Fox News Tonight’ will be replacing Carlson’s signature show and air live on an interim basis, as per the New York Post. The new show will be hosted by a rotating group of Fox News personalities until finalizing a new host.

‘Beginning of the end of Fox’

While Carlson’s firing from Fox News sparked a major backlash against the network, the company has been in the middle of trouble ever since Dominion Voting System filed the $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit against the network for airing unverified claims of election fraud surrounding Joe Biden’s win in the 2020 US presidential elections and claiming Donald Trump was wrongfully robbed off his victory.

Shortly before heading to trial, Fox News reached a settlement with Dominion and struck a last-minute deal that is worth more than $700 million. In the wake of the settlement, former federal prosecutor Glenn Kirschner appeared on The Stephanie Miller Show and said, “I think this could mark the beginning of the end of Fox.” He also noted that the network is likely to face more legal woes and claimed there will be “more suits to come” in reference to Smartmatic's $2.7 billion lawsuit, which also involved Fox News’ election coverage.

The network is also facing a lawsuit from producer Abby Grossberg who alleged that she was “coerced, intimidated and misinformed” by Fox News lawyers to provide misleading testimony in Dominion Voting System’s case. “You have to ask, how many billion-plus dollar settlements can Fox survive? When do they go belly up?” Kirschner said. “I'm not a forensic accountant. I don't know the answer to that. But boy, things go from bad to worse for Fox, so I think their troubles have just begun,” he added.

Carlson’s departure from the network compelled his fans to double down on the theory as many claimed the longtime host’s exit would further push Fox News towards the beginning of its end. “This means the end of Fox News,” one fan wrote citing Carlson’s exit. “This is not the end of Tucker, it's the end of Fox News,” tweeted an user. “That's the end of Fox News,” added another.
