'Single's Inferno' Season 5 puts Song Seung-il under fire for wavering between two romances
Drama is heating up on Netflix's 'Single's Inferno', and we are not complaining. Created by Kim Jae-won and Kim Na-hyun, the dating reality show leaves no stone unturned to keep viewers hooked as romance unfolds with every new episode. However, a recent twist has left fans more confused than thrilled, as Song Seung-il finds himself at the center of a love triangle. Frustrated, fans have questioned Seung-il's intentions, and we can understand why.
In 'Single's Inferno' Season 5, Seung-il is at the center of drama, torn between Choi Mina Sue and Kim Min-ji, as per PopRant. Fans are criticising him for enjoying attention from both women and urging Min-ji to protect herself. On Sunday, January 25, Netflix released a viral unseen clip showing Seung Il and Min-ji's first intimate moment in Paradise, just days before episodes five and six aired, sparking fan concern despite their apparent closeness.
'Singles Inferno' fans observed an uneven energy between Min-ji and Seung-il in the clip. While Min-ji seemed emotionally open, attentive, and clearly developing feelings, Seung-il appeared more distant, cautious, and undecided, especially given his known interest in Mina Sue. Many viewers expressed concern that Min-ji might become too attached without having her feelings fully returned. Fans flooded the Instagram post to share their concerns, with one writing, "Mingee, you sweetie, find someone else, he's not honest with you." Another fan noted, "Ya! I don't see he is that intrigued in her anymore now that she opened up more with him. I think his date with Mina will be more steamy bec she would try anything. Mingee is such a good person and soft hearted too early to be a one guy person when he is not the same."
While 'Single's Inferno' remains popular, fans have also long criticised its model and influencer-heavy casting. For Season 5, producer Kim Jae-won said casting focused on more diverse professions, seeking new faces beyond social media to bring fresh dynamics to the show, as per Harper's Bazaar Singapore. Before the release of Season 5, Jae-won revealed that the show will feature the largest cast yet, with more opportunities for genuine connections, diverse romances, and balanced screen time instead of focusing on a single love triangle.
'Single's Inferno' Season 5 premiered its first four episodes on Tuesday, 20 January, with new episodes releasing every Tuesday until the finale on Tuesday, February 10, and features the return of original hosts Hong Jin-kyung, Lee Da-hee, Hanhae, Kyuhyun, and Kim Jin-young (Dex), as per Lifestyle Asia. Notably, Season 5 keeps its core dating format but intensifies the drama, with new singles on 'Hell Island' competing for romantic connections to escape to 'Heaven Island'.
