Fans furious after Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch beats Jamie Campbell Bower's Vecna to take the Best Villain Award home

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The 'MTV Movie & TV Awards' 2023 are not happening as per the usual schedule. There is no live audience, no thunderous claps, no filled auditorium, and certainly no stars on the red carpet for the paparazzi to feed on. The reason for all this is the writer’s strike by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) protesting for better compensation from the major Hollywood studios. It’s been 15 years since the writers went on strike and the last time they were on the streets protesting in 2008, the financial world was falling apart due to the housing bubble. For now, the world has only recovered from a pandemic.

MTV Movie & TV Awards is a popular choice award voted by the fans. It’s a true tussle between two groups of fans who fight and vote ardently to get their favorite stars to win. For 2023, Tom Cruise has sealed the deal for Best Performance in a Movie for ‘Top Gun: Maverick,’ Pedro Pascal wins Best Hero for ‘The Last of Us’ while Best Movie bizarrely goes to ‘Scream VI'. Nevertheless, despite being a well-liked and logical choice to win the Best Villain award for her performance in 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness', Elizabeth Olsen has come under fire from ardent 'Stranger Things' fans who feel that Jamie Campbell Bower was robbed of the award for his portrayal of Vecna in the paranormal Netflix series.

Scarlet Witch over Vecna? 

In popular culture, Scarlet Witch aka Wanda Maximoff, a Marvel character whose powers go beyond any human capacity is feared by forces across the universe. She can devour cities, and brainwash anyone with her immense telekinesis and energy manipulation tactics. She can create a reality and then destroy it within seconds. Also, she can fight a universe killer like Thanos by herself. But in ‘Stranger Things', Vecna who lives in the upside-down, world he seems to inhabit is known to use demi gorgons or his telepathic abilities to control or destroy people. He’s limited by his powers and the world he lives in. To reiterate Scarlet Witch’s supremacy, one can be reminded of the fact that Vecna couldn’t kill Max played by Sadie Sink in ‘Stranger Things’ when she listens to a song while if given the task to Wanda, she would have wiped the floor with her. 

'He was in makeup for over 16 hours!' 

It’s established that Scarlet Witch is way more powerful than Vecna but given their respective performances, ‘Stranger Things’ fans believe that they have seen enough of Wanda. Vecna is a new more threatening realm for them and the evil character played by Jamie Campbell Bower outclasses Elizabeth Olsen’s performance in the show. For them, Olsen is no match for Jamie in terms of villainy. To express their fury, one fan wrote, “There is no way on gods green earth she beat this man??!?!” For some Jamie’s performance was the best since Heath Ledge’s Joker, “ Jamie is easily the best villain performance since Heath Ledger’s Joker. Be so for real.” A fan wanted to award Jamie for his make-up dedication, “Jamie Bower (vecna) deserved it!! He was in makeup for over 16 hours!"

There was no shortage of support for Jamie with fans apologizing to the star for not making him win. “Sooooo sorry babe x @Jamiebower about the MTV Movie Awards. I promise you that every single fan voted for you but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough. we love you and we are so proud of you and your performance as Vecna.” And at the end, the one that every Vecna wanted to say, “I’m sorry but Jamie Campbell Bower was robbed with the best villain!! He didn’t just sat through those 4 hrs of getting in & out of Vecna’s prosthetics, do Vecna’s voiceovers & act as human Henry Creel to be treated like a joke. He delivered a stellar & chilling performance!”

Scarlet Witch might win against Vecna in the fictional world but in the real one, fans rooted for Jamie over Olsen.
