Is Michael Halterman OK? Fans call out TLC for making '1000-lb Sisters' star look 'bad' in 'heavily edited' clips
STURGIS, KENTUCKY: In Season 5 of '1000-lb Sisters', Michael Halterman and Amy Slaton's marital struggles take center stage. In the premiere episode, Michael failed to assist Amy with the children, leading to documented woes in their relationship.
Amy faced exhaustion and frustration, lamenting, "Every aspect of my life is chaotic because I have no support." Their crumbling marriage became a focal point, showcasing Amy's battle with overwhelming stress.
Throughout their weight loss journey, Michael had been a constant support for both Amy and Tammy Slaton.
However, a shift occurred after the couple welcomed their second son, leaving viewers to speculate about Michael's well-being. Some suggest that TLC may have released 'heavily edited' clips that don't fully capture Michael's side of the story.
A Reddit user said, "We’re seeing heavily edited clips of Michael, so who knows what the real story is. He certainly did a lot with pushing Tammy around in her wheelchair all those years. I’m assuming Michael works so what does she do with her kids when he’s not home?"
Another person added, "The editing is probably making him look worse too. They can lay audio over all of the footage of him sitting there and make it look like he hadn't moved. Who knows."
Another critic noted, "To be fair we are only seeing heavily edited clips. We really have no idea how much he does or doesn't help with the kids. He definitely gives off "slow" vibes because he rarely speaks but then again so does Brittany or whatever her name is."
Another viewer penned, "Something’s definitely off about him it’s hard to tell because we’re only seeing an edit of him, but I’ve always wondered if he’s autistic. His one word responses infuriate me though!"
Another social media user suggested, "I always thought he had a mental disability of some sort." Another internet user commented, "He’s obviously mentally challenged."
Michael Halterman accused of 'mentally abusing' Amy Slaton
Six years after their 2017 elopement, Michael Halterman has filed for divorce from Amy Slaton in Kentucky, despite their documented 2019 wedding on the TLC show. The former couple, parents to sons Gage Deon and Glenn Allen, are parting ways.
Recently, Amy made serious allegations against Michael, accusing him of 'mental abuse' as the driving force behind their divorce.
In a recent interview with People, the reality star reflected on their marriage woes.
Amy noted, "There was no support. There was no love. There was no kindness. There was just mental abuse." She further noted that it took time for her to open up about the marital problems she was facing, adding, "I just got tired of hiding it from people."
Michael Halterman's wife Amy Slaton diagnosed with bipolar disorder
'1000-lb Sisters' Season 5 Amy Slaton allegedly has depression. After the explosive fight with Michael Halterman, Amy went to therapy and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, depression, and acute stress disorder, "which is like PTSD from the whole stuff going on with Michael."
The reality star shared with the outlet about the therapy, "It's a relief to know that I'm not crazy. It was something totally different. I'm not just snapping because I'm snapping. I'm snapping because I'm bipolar."
Amy has continued to go to therapy and revealed that she has been on medication for her condition. She also tried to maintain her happiness by "talking to Tammy, and being with my kids and my family as much as possible."
'1000-lb Sisters' Season 5 releases new episodes every Tuesday at 9 pm ET on TLC.
