MIDDLETOWN, DELAWARE: 'Teen Mom' star Kailyn Lowry secretly welcomed her son, Rio, with boyfriend Elijah Scott in November 2022. However, the reality star recently shared a series of photos from the time of his birth.
In the pictures, Rio was seen in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) bed with Elijah by his side, and in one photo, medical staff surrounded the toddler.
Kailyn captioned the post, "A year later we finally get to tell Rio’s birth story 🤍," hinting at the challenges they faced. The couple discussed Rio's birth details on the 'Barely Famous' podcast, recounting the events.
Kailyn went into labor a month ahead of her due date, and upon arriving at the hospital with Elijah, a 'biophysical' test on the baby indicated issues. Kailyn endured a 17-hour labor, and when it was time to push, Rio faced complications, failing the tests.
Recalling the traumatic experience, Kailyn admitted, "When they took him over to the incubator thing, there were eight or nine nurses working on him."
She expressed her concern when Rio didn't cry immediately, stating, "He wasn't breathing, and they kept saying he wasn't breathing, so that's where I was like, 'Okay, this is near death.'"
While Elijah disagreed with the characterization of a 'near-death' situation, he acknowledged the worry over Rio not crying for days.
Fans on Instagram flooded the comments with support and concern for the now one-year-old Rio, expressing their empathy for the challenging journey.

Kailyn Lowry wasn't able to see her son Rio for 12 hours
'Teen Mom' star Kailyn Lowry revealed she couldn't see her baby for 12 hours. She also elaborated on the concern and stress that would trigger preeclampsia.
She shared, "I've had four children before this and never knew that you could get preeclampsia after you give birth."
Kailyn claimed she was still learning things when it came to her fifth baby. She also shared that her boyfriend Elijah Scott was no newbie to children himself, explaining he helped raise his niece who was born when he was 14.

Despite having five children and twins on the way, Kailyn Lowry seemingly she wants more children. The MTV alum has recently opened up about the fact that she's considering baby eighth baby.
Kailyn had her friend Bone Estrada, who also appeared in 'Teen Mom' 2, discuss their future baby planning on her 'Barely Famous' podcast.
In the video shared on her Instagram, the friends duo discussed a plan they hatched for Bone to carry a child for Kailyn.
The reality television personality shared, "You just know when you're not done having kids and you know when you are done having kids."
She elaborated, "So there was a point where I had said that I was not done having children, we're gonna do gender selection and then Bone was going to carry my children or child."
She continued, "An Elijah [Scott] was on board. I don't know if your boyfriend was on board." Bone revealed that she "had already agreed to it" when she met her romantic partner.

The reality star announced the big news on her podcast, 'Barely Famous', in October 2023. Meanwhile, Kailyn kicked off her motherhood journey in 2010 when she appeared on MTV's '16 and Pregnant' as a senior in high school.
At the time, she was expecting her first child, son Isaac, with her then-boyfriend Jo Rivera. In 2012, she married Javi Marroquin, and a year later, the two welcomed their son, Lincoln.
The couple split in 2016, and Kailyn went on to have two more children, sons Lux and Creed, with ex Chris Lopez.
