‘Stranger Things’ drops cryptic update on playing MCU's live-action Miles Morales: ‘That’s a…’
'Stranger Things' star Caleb McLaughlin sparked quite the excitement after his comments on playing the MCU's live-action Miles Morales. There has been no official news of Morales appearing in the MCU. Earlier, Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige had dropped cold water on the possibility of a live-action Miles Morales being "nowhere".
However, in a recent interview with TIME, McLaughlin had Marvel faithful sit up and take notice when he spoke of his dream role. The cast of 'Stranger Things' were asked to write the "dream acting role" and his co-star, Sadie Sink, wrote 'Spider-Man/Miles (Morales)' while the actor himself had 'Avatar' on his list. "That's a dream role," said McLaughlin, who also added that he wanted to be a part of James Cameron's epic sci-fi animated franchise.
While the chances of McLaughlin landing the role look promising, given his chops to play the web-slinger, there is no positive news on the horizon about Morales entering the MCU. Feige had disappointing news for fans when he addressed a Morales-focused live-action film. In a roundtable press interview attended by Variety, "We've been told to stay away," Feige said. The animated 'Spider-Man' film featuring Morales, 'Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse', is set to release on June 25, 2027, after a delay.
In the meantime, McLaughlin's character, Lucas Sinclair, will be in the spotlight as 'Stranger Things' Season 5 gears up for the release of Volume 2 on Christmas Day and the epic finale on New Year's Eve. Speaking to Backstage, he shared his thoughts on the evolution of his character from season 1.
"I see it in double time, I do. Going back to what Gaten [Matarazzo] was saying, I look at the decisions I made in that moment, because of where I was in my life," McLaughlin said. "You either judge it or you commend yourself for it. You can do both. I feel like those were the years I was most critical of myself, my adolescence. I look back on it sometimes, and I’m upset. I’m like, 'Dude, you were just a cute kid'. Like, damn, I really wish I were in the moment, in those moments."
"But that’s what’s rich about the show, because it does show that growth. It does show us being nerds, the misfits of the world. And I do see that uncomfortability that I had growing up. But I feel that people see that undertone and can relate to it. So I give myself grace in that."
McLaughlin will return when 'Stranger Things' Season 5 Vol. 2 premieres December 25, 2025, on Netflix.
