MOSCOW, IDAHO: Days after Idaho murder suspect Bryan Kohberger was arrested, the internet is speculating whether he had an accomplice when he purchased the knife he used to kill the four students. The 28-year-old has been accused of fatally stabbing University of Idaho students Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Madison Mogen, 21, Xana Kernodle, 20, and Ethan Chapin, 20, in their off-campus three-story rented home on November 13, 2022. Kohberger was arrested in Albrightsville, Pennsylvania, on Friday, December 30.
Kohberger was arrested more than 2,000 miles away from where the murders took place and agreed to be extradited to Idaho from Pennsylvania. His lawyer reportedly said that he was shocked after being arrested and was reportedly planning to deny the murders. The weapon used to stab the students to death is believed to be a fixed-blade Ka-Bar-style knife.

Users on social media are questioning whether the murder suspect was alone or had an accomplice in the brutal murders. "A lot of speculation now, but it is being said that Kohberger had someone in his car with him when he purchased a knife. Can anyone confirm this? What are people's thoughts on whether he worked alone or in tandem with another in some capacity??" a user wrote on Reddit.
"He does not seem like the type to work well with others," one user answered, while another said, "We don't really know... chief Fry said they were looking for "occupants" (plurial). They might have evidence they were at least 2 in this car (speculation)." "That's what struck me as well, maybe they said occupants just because at the time they had no idea who was in the Elantra, but it does make you wonder..," wrote one user.
"I don’t think anyone else is involved. In order to have an accomplice to conspire with I feel like one must first have a friend. It doesn’t seem like Bryan has any of those…," one user wrote. While another said, "I think they’re is an accomplice and that’s why the felony burglary charge was added, just in case."
One said, "I highly doubt anyone else was involved in the murders or knew about it beforehand. Until we hear otherwise I’m not going to put much stock into that theory. I would think if he was actually planning a murder he wouldn’t take someone along while purchasing the murder weapon. He seems like someone who needs to be in control so I can’t imagine he would trust anyone else to carry out the murders or to just keep silent."
Kohberger was reportedly charged with four counts of murder in the first degree as well as felony burglary in connection with the deaths of the four students. Investigators have not publicly confirmed a motive for the murders. He is a PhD student in Washington State University’s Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology and is said to have lived just minutes from the scene of the crime.
Kohberger waived extradition from his home state of Pennsylvania to face murder charges in Idaho, CNN reported. He was brought to Moscow in handcuffs to be charged with the murders.
