'The Little Mermaid 2023'

Bailey gave an audition for the part in 2019 and completed filming in 2021. In a teaser clip that was published in September of last year, the Grown-ish actor was first seen in public as Ariel. Several people praised Bailey for playing the iconic role, but others complained that the casting director failed to choose a white actress who matched the red-haired cartoon character from the animated feature film.

In the upcoming motion picture, Melissa McCarthy plays Ursula, and Jonah Hauer-King plays Prince Eric. The plot will be based on Ariel's deal with the sea witch Ursula to receive human legs in trade for her voice. In a September 2022 PEOPLE interview, Bailey claimed that she cried after finishing the movie.
