NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: According to Jennifer Lopez, Madonna was supposed to kiss her during the sultry 2003 VMAs performance, which saw the pop icon smooch, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. The 53-year-old actress spoke candidly with E!News about her desire to take part in the legendary performance as she promoted the release of her new movie 'Shotgun Wedding'.

"I was filming a movie in Canada and I met with Madonna and Britney," she told E!News, adding that "And I couldn't get off the film, so they got Christina to do it. I'm a huge fan of Madonna, I always have been."

Christina Aguilera felt left out when MTV only showed Britney's kiss with Madonna and cut away her kiss with the pop icon

The Queens of pop kissing at the VMAs while performing Madonna's song Hollywood with Christina Aguilera stunned viewers all over the world. Britney began the show by performing Madonna's 'Like a Virgin' and emerging from a wedding cake while decked up as a bride. Soon after, Christina came on stage with Britney to perform the song before Madonna made her entrance and began singing the song 'Hollywood'. during the performance, Madonna approached Britney and kissed her. 

As reported by Daily Mail, Madonna made a suggestion that she wanted to reenact the notorious on-stage kiss during an Instagram live chat in January. During the live interview, Madonna was asked if she would ever go on another world tour to promote her songs. She responded, "Hell yeah! Got to stay young baby. Me and Britney, what about that? Yeah, I'm not sure she'd be into it, but it'd be really cool."

Meanwhile, there have been mixed reaction from social media users over Jennifer Lopez's most recent claim. One user on Twitter said, "The world would have EXPLODED if J-Lo joined in." Another wrote, "Britney, Madonna & Christina was the right choice tbh." One person wrote, "I love how the iconic kiss is remembered between Madonna and Britney and not Madonna and Xtincta."
