The recent coronavirus pandemic has gradually ground the world to a shuddering halt, as people have started practicing social distancing and isolation by staying at their homes. In a bid to keep everyone in the music community entertained, some talented hip-hop stars and producers have taken to social media to engage in live beat battles online while their fans watch and comment.

We've already seen plenty of reactions online, ranging from excitement to outrage over Instagram Live battles like Mannie Fresh vs Scott Storch, Hit-Boy vs Boi-1Da, Ne-Yo vs Johntá Austin, Sean Garrett vs. The-Dream, and Swizz Beatz vs Timbaland. But in the wake of all these online battles, there are still a handful of hip-hop stars who fans want to see lock horns in a good-old-fashioned one-on-one beat showdown type of way. The number one (and two) contenders on that potential battle list are none other than the talented rappers/producers Kanye West & Pharrell Williams, and so many fans have been begging for this battle on Twitter that it's actually started trending.

The hype is real and overwhelming, judging by the reactions of fans who are dying to see Kanye and Pharrell square up to each other online. There's an overwhelming deluge of tweets and retweets asking for the same thing:

"Kanye West against Pharrell. I would like to see it."

"Pharrell and Ye would be a good ass match. Still don’t think a single rap producer can see Dre by himself"

"Kanye vs. Pharrell would break the internet for two days."

"Look I know yall niggas aren’t really the type to do s*** for free, but just this one time for the culture, please & thanks."

"This needs to happen, Kanye West and Pharrell - please, please, please. Don’t even battle just pick and play your hits."

Some fans contended that Kanye would win the matchup - "Kanye would wash Pharell..." Other fans agreed, saying "Pharrell is an OG. They both iconic but imma agree with this." However, other fans were arguing that Pharrell was simply too talented, and would dwarf Kanye when it came to a competition - "Saw somewhere on Twitter that if we got a Kanye vs Pharrell on IG, Kanye would get that. I threw my phone. 'Ye is bananas but Pharrell is not for games. People forgot son was behind shit like SWV 'Use Your Heart' AND the Clipse 'Popeyes' AND that whole NERD LP. #range"

This seemed to be the popular consensus online, with plenty more agreeing that Pharrell was the superior rapper/producer - "Some of y’all don’t understand how wide Pharrell’s catalog really is and that’s VERY unfortunate..."

Most fans respected both parties, and agreed that Kanye and Pharrell would be a fair, evenly-matched battle - "Lol yall don't want Pharrell to embarrass somebody do ya? Only people that’ll make it interesting with him is Kanye, Dr Dre, and Timbaland. Them the only people with proper range for his and the Neptunes kind of production. He’ll beat everyone else 16-4."

So there we have it - the internet has spoken! Can we get Pharrell Williams and Kanye West to do battle already? Most people would even opt for pay-per-view to see that showdown!
