According to Daily Mail, the release sent out by the police indicated the presence of a dog. It stated, "During the search of the home, a dog was found in a room where the crimes had not been committed." It claimed, "Officers did not find any evidence on the dog and there was no indication the animal had entered the crime scene. The dog was taken to Animal Services and released to a responsible person." Though police have given out some of the investigation updates they are yet to name or even indicate a person of interest in the case.
Kaylee and Madison were murdered in the third floor of the building where as Ethan and Xana were killed in the second floor of the house. The release also claimed, "We believe someone has information that will add context to the picture investigators are creating of what occurred that evening. Our focus is the investigation, not the activities. Your information, whether you believe it is significant or not, might be one of the puzzle pieces that help solve these murders." Autopsies of the four victims confirm they were stabbed to death with a fixed-blade knife and the investigation team is now engaged to check with local stores if any military knives have been sold recently.
