Idaho murders: Crime scene photo shows eerie handprint on glass window next to evidence tape

MOSCOW, IDAHO: A new photo from the crime scene where four University of Idaho students were murdered last month shows a handprint next to an evidence tape on the window of the doomed house.
Ethan Chapin, 20, Xana Kernodle, 20, Madison Mogen, 21, and Kaylee Goncalves, 21, were found stabbed to death between the hours of 3 and 4 am on November 13 on the second and third floors of an off-campus residence in Moscow, Idaho. The murders are believed to have been committed using a "fixed-blade knife" as the students were asleep. Their roommates Dylan Mortensen and Bethany Funke were reportedly in the house at the time of the slayings but weren't harmed. They are said to have woken up hours later and called 911 after discovering the bodies. Idaho police have confirmed that Mortensen and Funke are not considered suspects.

The latest crime scene photos obtained by Fox News captured the inside of some rooms through the windows of the property. One window notably has an evidence tape attached to it with a handprint nearby.

Former homicide detective Ted Williams told Fox News that the killer may have touched walls or other areas of the home, thus leaving behind evidence. "I would have to believe, as I've said before, that they were very bloody or their clothing and certainly they would have tread themselves through blood. So they would have like perhaps touched a wall or other portions of the home. And those and that is information that would be evidence for the investigation here to try to determine who killed these people," Williams told the outlet.
According to the former detective, investigators likely put the red tape on anything where potential evidence may exist. "When they are scrubbing a crime scene, they will put evidentiary tape wherever they believe that there is evidence that exists and they will be the ones collecting that evidence. They'll try to rule it in or rule it out as being part of the crime scene," Williams explained.

Authorities haven't released the crime scene as yet, after announcing on Friday, December 2, that private security was hired to monitor the house. "As detectives move forward with the homicide investigation, a private security company has been contracted to provide scene security to free up patrol resources. The scene remains under police control," a release from the Moscow Police Department clarified. Meanwhile, Idaho State Police Communications Director Aaron Snell told Fox News that law enforcement "plan to continue holding the house" at this time.
