‘How To Get Away With Murder’ Season 6 Episode 6 preview: Is Annalise next on the hit list?

As the promo of Episode 6 suggests, Annalise is afraid of being killed and she is all set to go on the run.

Episode five of ABC’s legal hit drama, ‘How To Get Away With Murder’ season six left us with more tension than we have had so far in the new season. The episode ended with a hint that someone (or more) might have been killed at Asher and Gabriel’s apartment (where Wes used to live). Although we didn’t get to see who or what, the camera panned from the outside and through the stairs, revealing a blood-covered handprint on the wall, police cars, and CSU scampering around. That is when Tegan rushes in, trying to get to the crime scene, but is immediately stopped by the local PD. While this is the edgiest part of what transpired in the episode, there are more pressing issues, or rather questions that have been on our minds.

The teaser of Episode 6 threw quite a few suspicious breadcrumbs our way. One - Annalise is at the court, seeking protection from something or someone and making a plea to the judge. Two - we see her warning everyone (Bonnie, Asher, Connor, Oliver) that they might be next. And three – Laurel and Christopher might be dead. While we don’t know what ‘next’ refers to yet, we can make some assumptions or assessments from what we saw in the previous episode four and the current one.

We can already see how badly Frank is injured, and it was the price he paid to learn something about Laurel and her baby. On the other hand, Nate makes a deal with the FBI to find out the truth about his father’s death, and in the process becomes suspicious of Tegan. When Annalise comes to know about it, she confronts Nate, albeit with disappointment. Although Nate tries to convince her that Tegan might be involved in the FBI investigation and could be trouble for all of them, Annalise refuses to believe his theory or even accepts the facts. There is no doubt that the dirty secrets that Annalise and K4, Bonnie, Nate, and Frank have been covering for five years are not going to remain buried for long. Whether it was Sam, Rebecca, DA Todd Denver, Dominick Flores, or Ronald Miller, the truth behind each disappearance and murder will soon come out and Annalise can sense it.

However, if we try to analyze this further, we can see that it cannot just be the fear of being caught by the FBI that is stressing Annalise. There’s perhaps more to what meets the eye. For the first time, a woman with ultimate grit, tenacity, and courage is genuinely scared. She has gone through the most heartbreaking, disappointing, and blood-curdling situations over the last five years and has always been the one to get her people out of trouble every time, gotten her hands dirty with things no one else could probably imagine, and stood tall against every storm that came. She did break at times but rose from the ashes. So, when we see that Annalise Keating uttering these very words, ‘I am disappearing because I am afraid for my life’ her apprehension reaches the extent that she approaches the court for ‘legal protection’ and asks her students to break all their phones, so neither of them can be communicated. Someone who had never run away in the worst possible situation stands in front of the judge pleading, ‘Either you protect me, or they’ll kill me.’ And this raises the question of the season- is this all culminating to a showdown for Keating 5? And if Annalise is anticipating her imminent murder, who is it that she is suspecting. Do ‘they’ refer to the FBI, or Jorje Castillo’s men, or is there more to Annalise’s history that we are yet to discover?

If you cannot hold your breath longer, take a look at episode 6 teaser, which is most likely going to keep you on the edge with the suspense it promises.
