'How to Get Away with Murder' Season 6: Amirah Vann on Tegan's 'dark side' and whether she really killed Annalise

Amirah Vann, who plays Tegan Price is the only woman who could ever rival Annalise, and she will have you know that nobody is exempted from being a suspect — especially not Tegan
UPDATED OCT 14, 2019

Ever since the ongoing season six of 'How to Get Away with Murder' was announced to be its final season, fans jumped to speculate who the big death would be this time, as the trailer had teased a coffin being lowered six feet under.

The season premiere that aired around a month ago revealed that the inevitable death would be the shocking demise of everyone's favorite TV badass and the show's leading lady — Annalise Keating (Viola Davis).

The buzz on social media has been rife with speculations on who killed Annalise, and as we head into the fourth week of season six, Amirah Vann, who plays Tegan Price — the only woman who could ever rival Annalise — will have you know that nobody is exempted from being a suspect.

This is especially the case for Tegan, whose past is going to haunt her as the darkness within her makes an appearance.

From being a Stanford law graduate, passing the bar at just 22, to being career-oriented enough to not give two sh*ts about pursuing a relationship or marriage — Tegan's entire life is about her job as an attorney turned-interim head of the fictional law firm, Caplan & Gold.

Over the years we have seen her stand up and stand by Annalise when nobody else would. The two women challenged each other and even when their differences got in the way of doing what they believed was right, they came out stronger in solidarity.

This is something that really makes Vann's opinion of even Tegan being a suspect in Annalise's murder, quite shocking.

"Tegan has worked very hard for the role she currently has," Vann shared in an exclusive interview with MEA WorldWide (MEAWW). "That amount of power often comes with judgment and doubt."

"I love watching her tackle it all with grace, but the real question is, how far did she go to get where she is? We find out this season that her past is complicated and she’s far from innocent," Vann added.

When asked what are the odds of Tegan actually turning out to be Annalise's killer, Vann noted: "The great thing about this show is that everyone is capable of anything. This season, as we learn about Tegan’s past it’ll become apparent that she definitely has a dark side.

Suspects aside, what we have also not been able to overlook this season is the big teaser that still doesn't nail the coffin on whether Annalise is actually dead or just pretending to be.

Of course, without spoiling anything Vann enthused that given the coffin and her photo at the funeral in the premiere episode, " It's a reality none of us are ready to accept!"

And while Tegan might harbor solid motives to take out Annalise, the dynamics between the two have always been that of encouragement.

"Tegan is inspired by other strong women. Every time she's sees Annalise, it's like: 'game on! I want to rise together, lift each other up and win'," Vann shared about how the two women see each other on the show.

Sadly, going forward, things might end up getting darker as Tegan's "past is certainly informing her decisions these days," Vann spilled.

She added: "Her complicated past is coming for her and she won’t be able to escape it." For all we know, that could have direct connections with Tegan's new designation at Caplan & Gold, as the managing partner — a promotion which puts her further under scrutiny as a murder suspect.

Vann hinted that this season will explore how Tegan "loses herself in her work, in order to survive worlds that often don’t acknowledge their excellence or existence."

The grim aspect of their conviction "takes a huge amount of control and often isolation. There are many benefits, but the downside can be tragic. Can they hold on to their humanity?", she shared.

From being a fan of the show even before she booked Tegan back in season five, to rehearsing her scenes alone until she feels comfortable in her body, Vann's journey as Tegan has been nothing but inspiring.

"It wasn't always easing standing in her power, all eyes on me. I've learned to breathe and find comfort in the fact that true leaders serve!" she shared and warned: "Fans should be prepared for tears. I mean after all we are saying goodbye."

'How to Get Away with Murder' season six airs on Thursdays at 10 pm only on ABC.
