Garth Brooks is one of the most successful musicians of all time. The country music superstar, who has been active since 1985 (apart from a brief hiatus from music between the years 2001 to 2005), has released 16 studio albums, including his upcoming 'Fun', two live albums, three compilation albums, 67 singles and seven boxed sets.

In the United States, Brooks has achieved massive commercial success leaving behind the likes of Elvis Presley when it comes to the number of records sold by a solo artiste. He is No 2 on the list of highest-certified music artistes in the US trailed only by The Beatles. Here's a look at the total number of records that Brooks has sold in his career.

Record sales

With total sales of 157 million records in the US, Brooks is the second best selling musical artiste of all time. He is ahead of Elvis (146.5 million), Eagles (120 million), and even Led Zeppelin (111.5 million), Billy Joel (84.5 million) and Michael Jackson (84 million). His total worldwide record sales top 170 million equalling Kanye West and beating Justin Bieber who have total sales of 160 million and 150 million respectively.

Brooks also holds the record of being the only artist in music history to have released nine albums that achieved diamond status in the US surpassing the Beatles' former record of six. These albums are 'Garth Brooks' (over ten million copies), 'No Fences' (over eighteen million copies), 'Ropin' the Wind' (over fourteen million copies), 'The Chase' (over ten million copies), 'In Pieces' (over ten million copies), 'The Hits' (over ten million copies), 'Sevens' (over ten million copies), 'Double Live' (over twenty-one million copies), and 'The Ultimate Hits' (over ten million copies).

His other certified albums include 'Beyond the Season' (over three million copies), 'Fresh Horses' (over eight million copies), 'The Life of Chris Gaines' (over two million copies), 'Garth Brooks and the Magic of Christmas' (over a million copies), 'Scarecrow' (over five million copies), 'The Lost Sessions' (over three million copies), 'Man Against Machine' (over a million copies), and 'Gunslinger' (over a million copies).

His compilation record, 'The Garth Brooks Collection', has sold over three million copies while the live album 'Triple Live' has sold over four million copies. The boxed set 'Blame It All on My Roots: Five Decades of Influences' has also sold over four million copies while 'The Ultimate Collection' has sold over nine million copies. His video album 'Garth Brooks' has moved over four million copies while 'This Is Garth Brooks' has sold over five million copies.

On the digital side, Brooks is currently in a partnership with Amazon Music for streaming services, which he signed in 2016 and again in 2019. Brooks' digital sales are nowhere close to his physical album sales. Brooks has engaged in years of royalty disputes and has long been in opposition to online music streaming. He also launched an exclusive streaming channel on Sirius XM Radio.

He had also, in 2014, established GhostTunes, an online music store featuring his own digital music, as well as over ten million songs from other artistes. The store contracted with the big three record labels allowing for autonomous pricing and distribution format resulting in the most proper royalty payments for artistes and songwriters. In 2017, GhostTunes officially closed, merging with Amazon Music.
