MEXICO: Famed Mexcian actress Ana Ofelia Murguia, well-known for voicing the iconic character of Mama Coco in Disney's 2017 animated movie 'Coco', has died at the age of 90, according to Daily Mail. The exact cause behind her death has not yet been revealed.

It has been reported by the media outlet that The National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (INBAL) announced the sad news of the beloved voice actress' death on X formerly known as Twitter on December 31, 2023, Sunday.



 

NIFA issued an official statement that roughly translated to, "With deep sadness we regret the sensitive death of the leading actress Ana Ofelia Murguia, who was part of the stable cast of the @CNTeatromx of #INBAL and whose artistic career was vital for the performing arts of Mexico."

The organization further added, "We send condolences and lovingly hug her family and friends."

Murguía was a popular Mexican actress and Disney voice actor who gained a lot of name, fame, and success due to her incredible acting career.

Murguia, who was born in Mexico in 1933, is most known for her work in the 2017 Disney-Pixar animated movie 'Coco' as well as her performances in 'The Queen of the Night' (1994) and 'Nobody Will Speak of Us When We're Dead' (1995). 

Her film credits include 'Jose' (1976), 'Life Sentence' (1979), 'Dune' (1984), 'Gaby: A True Story' (1987), and 'Ambar' (1994) among many others. 

Throughout the course of her remarkable acting career, Murguia was nominated for five Ariel Awards for Best Actress, and she was given the Special Golden Ariel, also known as the Ariel de Oro, in 2011.

She was nominated for a total of 17 Ariel Awards throughout the course of her career apart, per her IMDb page, out of which she won three for Best Supporting Actress.

Furthermore, she also bagged nominations for several other prestigious awards and won five other awards apart from her 4 Ariels.

In addition to this, The Sun also revealed that Murguia received a medal in recognition for her contributions to the industry in April 2023. 

Her most known piece of work has to be Disney's movie 'Coco' which is an animated film set in Mexico.

The inspiration behind it was the Mexican holiday Day of the Dead, and it required extensive research in the country for the role. The movie bagged great reviews from all over the world.
