Witnesses saw the two men ride up on a motorbike. One of the men got off and shot Mendoza multiple times before escaping with his accomplice. The police is yet to figure out who planned the murder and the motive behind the shooting. Cops are currently searching for suspects but there are no updates yet. No one has been arrested till now.

Tania Mendoza had been kidnapped before this

In 2010, Mendoza was a victim of kidnapping. Her husband, and her then six-month old son were also taken in the car wash kidnapping. Reportedly, the three victims were taken to a safehouse where they were brutally beaten before they were released. They were held hostage for a duration of three hours. The masked captors did not reveal their identities.

Just as Mendoza thought that she was safe, the captors called her warning her to leave the state of Morelos as soon as she possibly could. Following this, to protect herself and her family, Tania Mendoza reportedly complained to the State's General Attorney's Office countless times about the death threats she was constantly receiving.

Based on the official data released for the year 2020-2021, at least 10 women are murdered every day in Mexico. Labelling this a 'shocking epidemic', Amnesty International said that of all murders reported one third, almost 900 plus cases are femicides where the motive is to intentionally murder women. Mexico is labelled as the second most dangerous country in the world for women. Mendoza's murder will be investigated as a femicide.

Tania Mendoza's career

Mendoza has played exceptional roles in various Mexican soap operas but she was primarily a singer. Her fame peaked in 2005 after her film 'La Mera Reyna del Sur' released in which she played the lead role. In recent years, Tania Mendoza had recorded over five albums and it was assumed that she wanted to focus on her career as a singing artist over her acting projects. Her tragic end meant that the Mexican entertainment industry has lost one of its prolific stars.
