'It sucked for him': Kieran Culkin says he felt sorry for brother Macaulay amid ‘Home Alone’ fame
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Kieran Culkin has revealed something dark about his brother. After Macaulay Culkin achieved fame at the age of 10 for his part in 'Home Alone', Kieran felt bad for him, the younger sibling revealed.
Kieran, who plays Roman Roy on HBO's 'Succession', discussed in an interview with Insider the effect Macaulay's celebrity status had on the entire family as well as on Macaulay himself. Referring to his brother as a "poor f**king guy," Kieran said, “He was little and had to try to accept that level of fame as a reality. Even at that time, as a kid, I remember thinking, ‘That sucks for him.'”

In 'Home Alone', Kieran played Fuller, Kevin's cousin. Meanwhile, Macaulay played the protagonist Kevin, who must protect his family's home from robbers after his parents unintentionally leave him behind while on vacation. At the time, Kieran was eight years old.
‘I beg you to save my family’
The family became a prime target for the paparazzi due to the level of popularity Macaulay acquired from the movie, especially following the siblings' parents' bitter divorce in 1995. When he was thirteen years old, Kieran hand-wrote a letter to the judge asking for a ban on media coverage of the custody dispute.
"Your Honour," he wrote, "I beg you kindly to save my family any further shame by permitting the journalists to enter the courtroom. It has already been difficult for us, so I don't see the point." However, his request was turned down. Nevertheless, due to the previous coverage of his family, Macaulay now declines to speak with Access Hollywood and the New York Post.
‘It was a little disappointing’
Elsewhere, Kieran recently disclosed what happened to Roman's wife and child in 'Succession'. They appeared in the HBO series' premiere episode, which debuted in 2018, but they haven't subsequently, and producer Jesse Armstrong has chosen not to explain the decision.
Culkin conceded it was "a little disappointing" that the show had taken a different turn. “But I think the idea was that it would just give them more freedom to play with the character,” Culkin told Variety, adding, “They had mentioned to me, even before we shot the pilot, about questioning what Roman’s sexuality is – and we don’t know what it is. But it put something in my brain, and I was like, ‘OK, but I’m married and have kids?’”
