With Halloween around the corner, the celebrities are stepping up the game with their eye-popping outfits. While we recently saw musicians like Saweetie, Ciara, Meghan Thee Stallion, Lizzo, and Lil Nas X raising the bar with their respective Halloween costumes, Harry Styles too grabbed the headlines for his unique outfit.

The ‘Golden’ hitmaker has entertained us thoroughly for the last few years with his Halloween costumes. This year, the 27-year-old British crooner decided to channel the iconic character of Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz. And, that’s not it. Harry Styles in his Dorothy costume took over the stage at Madison Square Garden over the weekend as a part of "Harryween" Fancy Dress Party and belted out his recent hot numbers. Styles had earlier made headlines when he channeled Miley Cyrus, and Elton John for Halloween a few years back.

For the unversed, Dorothy Gale is a fictional character that was the brainchild of author L. Frank Baum. Dorothy was the protagonist in many Oz novels. She first appeared in the classic 1900 children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and later in many of its sequels. Dorothy Gale also made it to the 1939 film adaptation of the novel, The Wizard of Oz. The phrase “friend of Dorothy” got popular in the 1950s as slang for homosexuals. The term is attributed to the author and fellow gay icon Dorothy Parker, and to Judy Garland's iconic role as Dorothy Gale in ‘The Wizard of Oz’. On a similar note, Harry had also shared a picture on Instagram recently where he could be seen waving the LGBTQ+ flag on stage in Atlanta as a part of his ongoing Love On Tour.

‘How is this not cultural appreciation towards drag queens and LGBTQ’

Fans of Harry Styles erupted with joy as the singer landed on the stage in his iconic costume, however, a few also ended up slamming him. “Harry Styles dressed as Dorothy from ‘The Wizard of Oz’ singing ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’ won Halloween”, claimed one fan as another shared, “Let anyone else do this and they’ll be bullied, he gets hyped for anything.” One added, “I love Harry but this outfit is a whole mess White men doing the bare mini as always.”

The next one shared, “King ended toxic masculinity why can’t all men be like him.” Speaking of toxic masculinity, another had a different view, “Can we bring back toxic masculinity bc wtf is this s**t.” One posted, “Yall are really sad for attacking him over halloween costume he looked super adorable, if you're not comfortable with yourself it's okay! but don't come for harry bc he dressed up as dorothy, pls and thank you.” Another concluded, “How is this not cultural appreciation towards drag queens and LGBTQ, it's the same but no one is saying anything.”
