BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA: Gypsy Rose Blanchard, after serving 8 years of imprisonment, is building a new life, full of freedom and joy in Louisiana.
Gypsy was sentenced 10 years in prison in 2016 when she pleaded guilty for her involvement in the killing of her mother, Clauddine 'Dee Dee' Blanchard. After serving 85 percent of her sentence, she got an early release in December 2023.
The twisted case of Gypsy Rose
Gypsy Rose was a victim of Münchausen syndrome by proxy. Her mother forcefully put her in a wheelchair despite her being able to walk. She even gave her medications that she didn't need and shaved her head to convince her family, friends and community that Rose was a terminally ill child with the brain of a seven-year-old.
She endured mental and physical torture until she was 23 and her then boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn killed Dee Dee in 2015 as he believed it to be the only way he would be able to spend his life with Gypsy.
Both Gypsy and Godejohn were convicted for their respective roles in Dee Dee's murder in 2016.
Where does Gypsy Rose live now?
As reported by People, Gypsy Rose was released from Chillicothe Correctional Center in Missouri on December 28, 2023.
She confirmed moving to Louisiana, where she was born, in a TikTok video dated December 31, as reported by Parade. She said in the video, “It's nice to be home. I'm back home in Louisiana, enjoying a beautiful day outside.”
Is Gypsy Rose married?
In 2019's documentary, 'Gypsy Rose & Nick: A Love to Kill', Godejohn said that he thought Gypsy was his soulmate and he only killed Dee Dee to save her from her mother's torture.
While Godejohn continued to believe that Gypsy is the only one with whom he could have a future, Gypsy moved on soon enough. As per the report by People, she had two known relationships while in prison.
She met Ken Urker, a man who wrote to her in prison after watching her story in 'Mommy Dead and Dearest'. He even proposed her during a prison visit but their union wasn't long term.
The Springfield News-Leader, in its August 2022 report, mentioned that Gypsy married Ryan Scott Anderson of Saint Charles, Louisiana.
Gypsy ended two years of her marriage with Anderson, three months after being released from prison. In March, 2024, she posted on her private Facebook account, "People have been asking what is going on in my life. Unfortunately my husband and I are going through a separation and I moved in with my parents home down the bayou. I have the support of my family and friends to help guide me through this. I am learning to listen to my heart. Right now I need time to let myself find… who I am," mentions the People report.
After officially filing for divorce, Gypsy reunited with her ex-fiance Urker. She told TMZ in April 2024, "After reconnecting earlier this month, we realized that our love for each other is simply undeniable, and life is too short to not take a chance."
"We have a history that made for the perfect foundation for a new beginning. We are together and in a wonderful place in our relationship. We know it is going to be a long road ahead but are excited for the future," she added.
