'Grey's Anatomy' Season 16: Will Bailey's miscarriage affect her relationship with Ben?

Miscarriages or dying babies never bode well for relationships on the show, if we remember what happened to Jackson and April Kepner.

Well, well, well. That last episode of 'Grey's Anatomy' has given us much heartbreak to deal with. Apart from a terrible car crash, Jo (Camilla Luddington) running off with a baby, and Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) realising that her baby might just not be Link's (Chris Carmack), and Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) heading into an uneasy love triangle, fans can't wait for the show to return on January 23 and get answers to their questions.

Yet, the most heart-wrenching part of the episode was when Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) miscarried her child. Bailey had just been so excited a while back, talking about her baby to Amelia, but then, of course, no one can stay happy on 'Grey's Anatomy' for too long. At the end of the episode, her husband Ben (Jason George) tries to talk to her, but she tells him to give her some space.

Miscarriages or dying babies never bode well for relationships on the show, if we remember what happened to Jackson (Jesse Williams) and April Kepner (Sarah Drew). So, this might just affect Bailey's and Ben's relationship, because they've seemed secure and happy for too long, and God forbid that happens on this show.

Another possibility is that Ben might be one of the victims of the car crash, as he was sitting in the bar, feeling rather morose and unhappy. This could either just bring him closer to Bailey or create a further rift between the two. Considering that Grey's is amping up the drama quotient this season, the latter might just be the case.

Bailey had just repaired her relationship with Meredith Grey and had stood up for her against the medical board, who were considering taking away Meredith's license. Everything had seemed rather hunky-dory as the two had even hugged it out.

So, what will happen next? How will this miscarriage affect Bailey's and Ben's relationship?

'Grey's Anatomy' airs on Thursdays, on ABC.
