Grammys 2020: Lizzo kicks off award show with tribute to Kobe Bryant, leaves fans teary-eyed
It has been a heartbreaking Sunday (January 26) as news trickled in of basketball star Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna being killed in a helicopter crash in California, hours before the award show commenced. The Grammys 2020 began with a tribute to Kobe and Lizzo took the reins with her scintillating performance. She began her performance saying, "This one's for Kobe."
Fans were full of praise for Lizzo's heartfelt performance. One wrote, "Welcome to the Grammys, bi**h!” - @lizzo kicking off the show with a medley. Also: "Tonight is for Kobe."
Another tweeted, "@lizzo is opening up the Grammy Awards with a tribute to Kobe Bryant with a compilation of her most popular songs.." Another emotional fan wrote, "@lizzoscreaming “Tonight is for Kobe” just put a lump in my throat."
Right after that, Alicia Keys performed as well. One fan wrote, "So lovely to hear Lizzo's dedication to Kobe Bryant. Alicia Keys' words and the beautifully rendered song with Boyz II Men were a wonderful tribute. #Lizzo #GRAMMYs2020." Fans were awed by Lizzo and one wrote, "Lizzo!! Amazing performance!! Lizzo leads the nominations and has won the award for Best Traditional R & B performance, and Best Urban Contemporary Album.
