Despite the tumultuous nature of the world of rock and roll, the Best Rock Album is one award that has held steady throughout Grammys history — even during its major 2012 overhaul that saw several categories split and merged as part of the Grammy organization's endeavor to reduce the number of categories.

Greta Van Fleet's 'From the Fires' in took home the award in 2019. The album was praised for echoing classic rock and was received favorably by critics for dealing with the concept of basic humanity in an interesting way.

The nominees for the award this year included 'Amo' by Bring Me The Horizon, 'Trauma' by I prevail, 'Feral Roots' by Rival Sons, and 'In the End' by The Cranberries. 'Social Cues' by Cage The Elephant won the award for Best Rock Album tonight.

Despite being different from their usual sound, the band's signature sounds still echo through the album as it deals with important personal and social issues, including the disillusionment and exhaustion that underscores dealing with daily life as well as the duality of fame — equal parts euphoria and pain.

Much like last year's winner, 'Social Cues' deals with humanity, but this time it takes the lens and shines it on the complex inner turmoils that plague us as we try to navigate the mundane and the routine.

Some viewers were upset at the result, however. The Cranberries were a fan favorite to win since this was their final studio album from the Irish alternative rock band with singer Dolores O'Riordan's vocals featured posthumously.

The band took to Instagram to say, "Whatever happens at the Grammys today just being nominated for best rock album is a huge honor that Dolores would be so proud of. Sitting here waiting for the announcement feels so surreal without her. We will forever be grateful to and will always miss our sister in music."
