Congratulations are in order for Patty Griffin as she bagged the Grammy Award for the Best Folk Album during the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards held at Staples Center in Los Angeles on January 26 night.

In a separate premiere ceremony, a few of the categories were awarded before the television broadcast. Apart from Patty, the other early winners include Lizzo, Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X, Lady Gaga and Beyonce. Patty won for her self-titled album 'Patty Griffin'.

Hosted by Alicia Keys, music's biggest night included performances by stars like Demi Lovato, Billie Eilish, Lizzo and many more. The award for the Best Folk Album was first introduced in 2012 and is awarded to artists who use traditional folk elements, sounds and instrumental techniques.

Rhiannon Giddens and Sarah Jarosz are the only two artists to have multiple nominations under this category. With what surely was a tough competition, Patty topped all the other nominations that included 'My Finest Work Yet' by Andrew Bird, 'Rearrange My Heart' by Che Apalache, 'Evening Machines' by Gregory Alan Isakov and 'Front Porch' by Joy Williams.

This is the second time that Patty has been nominated under the category for the Best Folk Album, but this is her first win under this category. She has previously won a Grammy for her album 'Downtown Church' under the category Best Traditional Gospel Album in 2011. Overall, Patty has won two Grammy Awards to date.

Since Patty was not present at the award ceremony that was earlier held at Staples Center,  Esperanza Spalding who presented the award, accepted it on the artist's behalf. Prior to the television broadcast of the Grammy Awards, dozens of awards will be handed out.
