Grammys 2020: Billie Eilish bags the Best New Artist award, leads the night with 5 wins in kitty
Billie Eilish follows in the footsteps of Dua Lipa and Alessia Cara and takes home the Grammy Award for Best New Artist on Sunday night.
Hosted by Alicia Keys, music's biggest night included performances by star-studded artists that included Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande, Demi Lovato, Camila Cabello and Dj Khaled.
The award for the Best New Artist was initiated in 1959, and ever since then, it has become a recognition of true talent. During the early years when the award started, it was more a curse than a blessing as most of the artists who won the award weren't able to reap the same kind of success they received during their debut years. The Best New Artist award is also the only one with a circumstance where the Grammy Award was left vacant.
But now, the award is considered to be more of a blessing, and this year's nominees include chart-topping artists Black Pumas, Lil Nas X, Lizzo, Maggie Rogers, Rosalia, Tank & the Bangas and Yola. But standing out amongst them all, Billie bagged the award during the 62nd annual Grammy Awards.
The award was presented by Alicia Keys and last year's Best New Artist winner Dua Lipa. Accepting the award, Billie first thanked her touring team whom she forgot to mention when she accepted the award for Song of the Year for 'Bad Guy'.
She went on to thank her fans, claiming that even though they haven't been talked off much tonight on the Grammy's stage, she wouldn't be there if it wasn't for them. This marks the 5th Grammy Award the 'Bad Guy' singer has won. She had been nominated for one other award which she lost to Lizzo.
