The award-winning singer arrived at the award ceremony with his wife and son. Accepting the award, Anderson shared, "This could’ve went anywhere! Shoutout to everyone in the category. This is a win for R&B … I wanna thank God, I wanna thank my beautiful wife — my patient wife— I know you don’t love me ‘cause I’m perfect but thank you for showing me and my kids the closest thing to it.”
Continuing he said, "Wanna thank Free Nationals, my lawyer, my Live Nation team... and all the amazing producers and writers that helped contribute to make something like this. I wanna thank Dr. Dre and everyone at Aftermath... I wanna thank Jimmy Iovine... both of them for telling me the things that I don’t want to hear, but that I need to hear.”
