Thanks to Covid-19, virtual concerts are now becoming a new trend among musicians to stay in touch with their fans and entertain their audience with new music. After Dua Lipa and Louis Tomlinson planned their respective virtual concerts, it is now the British virtual band Gorillaz who are all set to enthrall their fans with a virtual concert called Song Machine Live.

The award-winning band was created in 1998 by musician Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett. What sets the band apart is that it consists of four animated members namely 2-D, Murdoc Niccals, Noodle and Russel Hobbs and their fictional universe is presented in music videos, interviews and short cartoons.  

The official synopsis of the virtual concert reads: "Nothing’s going to stop Gorillaz from performing LIVE for you. Up at the crack of dawn to unleash their music, fans down under (well sort of) will be the first to watch Gorillaz play since 2018. A full-blown production, thanks to the creative minds of Damon Albarn & Jamie Hewlett. Blending mixed animated realities with live music and appearances from mystery guests. ANYTHING can happen during each live show." Now, if you have been planning to dig some music from Gorillaz, here’s everything you need to know about the virtual concert.

What is it about?

Officially named Song Machine Live from Kong, the virtual concert will feature the live band performing tracks from their 2020 release titled, ‘Song Machine, Season One: Strange Timez’. To further enthrall their fans, the concert will also include animated visuals created by Jamie Hewlett.

When to watch

The official website of Gorillaz reads, “Nothing is going to stop Gorillaz from performing Song Machine Live for you in 2020! A global live stream, with 3 performances across 3 different time zones. Coming to you live and direct from London on December 12 & 13th." As the official statement reveals, fans can enjoy the much-hyped virtual concert on December 12 and 13 in different time zones.

Schedule

Song Machine Live from Kong will have three different shows in different time zones.  If you are watching from Asia, Australia and New Zealand, then tune into the show at 20:00 from Japan, 22:00 from Sydney, 19:00 from Singapore and 19:00 from Beijing on December 12, 2020.

If you want to catch the show from North and South America, then you can enjoy the performances live at 4 pm from LA, 7 pm from New York, 7 pm from Toronto, 6 pm from Mexico City, 7 pm from Lima and 9 pm from Santiago on December 12, 2020, as revealed by the band’s official website. For December 13, the concert will be up for the showcase in UK, Europe and Africa. Fans can tune into the Live virtual concert at 19:00 from London, 20:00 from Berlin, 20:00 from Paris, 20:00 from Lake Como, 19:00 from Nigeria and 20:00 from Cape Town.

How to livestream

First, fans need to hit the official website to access the “LIVE NOW” option. This can be easily done from most mobile devices, tablets and computers, and even smart TVs by simply using the web browser to access “LIVE NOW” option at the time of your scheduled show. Fans have to simply check their order details after purchasing the ticket for more information on how to further access the stream.

According to the website Android Central, the tickets for the virtual concert are priced at $15 USD. One can only watch a single stream with a single ticket.

Features

Artistes such as Beck, Slowthai, ScHoolboy Q, 6lack, Chai, Earthgang, Fatoumata Diawara, Georgia, JPEGMAFIA, Kano, Leee John, Peter Hook, Roxani Arias and Slaves, Elton John, Robert Smith and others will join Gorillaz at their virtual concert.
