Golden Globes 2021: Mark Ruffalo wins Best Actor in Limited Series for ‘I Know This is True’, fans demand Oscar

The talented actor played the double role of Dominick Birdsey and Thomas Birdsey in the HBO limited series, which also brought him an Emmy last fall

The 78th edition of the Golden Globes kicked off with much fanfare on Sunday, February 28, 2021, where comedians Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted the ceremony from two different locations, marking the first bi-coastal event in the show's history. To be specific, Fey hosted the ceremony from New York City's Rainbow Room while Poehler was present at Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills.

In his first-ever Golden Globes victory, Mark Ruffalo was announced the winner in the Best Actor in a Limited Series made for Television category for his show ‘I Know This is True’. The talented actor played the double role of Dominick Birdsey and Thomas Birdsey in the HBO limited series. The role also brought him an Emmy last fall and another nomination at the 2021 Screen Actors Guild Awards. The ‘Avengers’ star was pitted against stalwarts namely Hugh Grant for ‘The Undoing’ (HBO), Ethan Hawke for ‘The Good Lord Bird’ (Showtime), Bryan Cranston for ‘Your Honor’ (Showtime) and Jeff Daniels for ‘The Comey Rule’ (Showtime). Mark Ruffalo has earned a total of five Golden Globes nominations in his illustrious career.

As soon as the news of Mark winning his first-ever Golden Globes hit the internet, social media users erupted with joy. Taking it to Twitter one said, “Godly light of decency. Bravo Mark Ruffalo.” Another shared, “I'm truly happy for Mark Ruffalo, who gave a moving speech. And I'm still worried not enough people saw #IKnowThisMuchIsTrue.” One added, “Why am I crying at Mark Ruffalo’s family’s excitement #GoldenGlobes.”

The next one posted, “Congratulations to my talented pal @MarkRuffalo on his @goldenglobes WIN for his ineffably beautiful work on #IKnowThisMuchIsTrue and for his inspiring speech of love, empathy and healing. I love you Mark. Red heart #GoldenGlobes.” One added, “The way mark ruffalo plays both dominick & thomas on this show & his acting for both of them IS SO SUPERIOR. #GoldenGlobes.” One individual asserted, “I KNOW Mark Ruffalo must’ve acted his a** off to win Best Actor over Bryan Cranston in Your Honor and Hugh Grant in The Undoing.” 

One said, "Well deserved, Mark Ruffalo: he had to play two parts for win. Other nominees only had to do one. His series, I Know This Much Is True, undeservedly underrated." One more said, "*clears throat* EMMY AND GOLDEN GLOBE WINNER AND FUTURE OSCAR WINNER MARK RUFFALO."
