HOUSTON, TEXAS: A 14-year-old girl was reportedly taken to hospital after being found with self-inflicted knife injuries to her arms at the Houston home of US Senator Ted Cruz. The girl is believed to be Cruz’s elder daughter, Caroline Cruz, however, the claim has not been verified yet, as per Daily Mail. 

On Tuesday, December 6, at about 7.44 pm, Houston police and fire department personnel were called to the residence in the River Oaks neighborhood, who responded to the reports of a 14-year-old with injuries, reports ABC. A representative for the Senator said that it was "a family matter and that Cruz's daughters were okay," and added that there were no serious injuries, states DailyMail. Cruz has two daughters, 14-year-old Caroline, who reportedly came out as bisexual in January of this year and said she doesn't agree with her father's politics, and another daughter, 11-year-old Catherine.

Following this news, many took to Twitter with one saying, "Terrible news! I hope that Ted Cruz’s daughter is okay and she has a quick and full recovery." Another wrote, "To Ted Cruz's daughter. There's a whole country of love and support for you and your feelings. Everything you feel is valid. These are hard years, and sometimes our families don't support us in the ways that we need, but there is a tribe for you out there no matter how you feel." One more added, "Thoughts with Ted Cruz’s daughter tonight. I can’t imagine the amount of stress of a young adult in that situation. Regardless of how I feel about him, his kids don’t deserve this."

On the other hand, there were people who bashed Cruz by saying, "A 14 year old female child that lives in Texas came out last year as bisexual. Tonight she attempted suicide. This is what the hateful laws against the LGBTQ+ do to children. This child is Ted Cruz’s daughter." Many slammed these trolls who made this about Cruz's politics and other decisions. An individual wrote, "To clarify, it appears as though Ted Cruz's 14 year old daughter Caroline has attempted suicide. Nobody likes Ted Cruz but let's keep it respectful for the child, please." "No matter how anyone feels about Ted Cruz, his daughter is off limits. The pressure that child must be under is unimaginable. Is not her fault and she has different views & beliefs than her father. Let’s respect that," added another.
