Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett postpones Seconds Out tour to 2021 fall, adds eight more UK dates
The guitar wizard Steve Hackett, a former member of the artsy prog-rock gods Genesis recently confirmed that he would be postponing his Seconds Out +More Tour dates to the fall of next year, with the new UK dates now scheduled to take place on September and October of 2021. The tour was delayed due to the ongoing pandemic. Due to popular demand, the re-scheduled tour dates will feature eight additional shows, including a third show at the historic London Palladium. It is understood that all existing tickets that have been purchased will remain valid for the new dates. In the meantime, Hackett will also be releasing his new autobiography, 'A Genesis In My Bed', on July 24. The entertaining read chronicles his early years and later on, a flourishing musical career and in-depth interactions with esteemed members of Genesis like Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford, Tony Banks and many more stars.
Although the original tour was due to commence in November this year, it will now be kicking off on September 10, 2021, at the Leicester De Montfort Hall. The show will feature the celebrated 1977 Genesis live album 'Seconds Out' played in its entirety. The immensely popular 'Seconds Out' was a hugely successful double album that features recordings from Genesis's 1977 concert tour, accompanied by a mesmerizing version of 'The Cinema Show' from their 1976 tour.
The tour included music from each of the six studio albums spanning Hackett’s 1971-1977 stint with Genesis and marked his final recordings with the band since he left to pursue his solo career soon after its completion. The album featured the definitive Genesis lineup of Hackett on guitar alongside Rutherford, Banks and Collins, who had taken over vocal duties following the departure of Peter Gabriel. The new Seconds Out +More! Tour will also visit some of the renowned venues Genesis played during that 1977 tour, like the Edinburgh Playhouse, Dundee Caird Hall, Southampton Mayflower Theatre and the Newcastle O2 City Hall.
Speaking about the upcoming tour, Hackett revealed: "I hugely look forward to being back on the road in the UK, bringing the whole of 'Seconds Out' back to life! The set features some of the most thrilling Genesis material, this time all numbers played in full, plus additional surprises."
