'General Hospital' star Sonya Eddy dies at 55, fans remember her as 'best nurse on GH'
'General Hospital' actress Sonya Eddy died at 55 on Monday, December 20 according to her close friend and Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer's Instagram post. No information has been revealed as yet about the cause of her death.
In 2006, Eddy started her lengthy tenure on the ABC serial series. She played the role of Epiphany Johnson, a tough head nurse who was the mother of the late Stan Johnson, who became involved with the gangsters. Eddy also appeared in projects TV shows and films such as 'Seinfeld', 'Patch Adams', 'Reba', 'Monk', 'Joan of Arcadia', 'CSI', 'Glee', 'Castle' and 'Fresh Off The Boat'. Eddy was a licensed vocational nurse and had been acting since the mid-1990s, making her debut on 'The Drew Carey Show' back in 1995, as per the New York Post

"My friend sonyaeddy passed away last night. The world lost another creative angel. Her legions of generalhospitalabc fans will miss her. My thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones, friends, and fans!" Octavia wrote in an Instagram caption while sharing Eddy's picture. Her friends reacted in shock as some prayed for peace and consoled Octavia. "This can’t be. She was a staple in my house growing up. The best nurse on GH," one wrote. Another said, "I’m so sorry for your loss. She will be missed. She truly touched so many. Me as well. I will pray for you and the one you she loved".
"R.I.P. Sonya u will be so missed. What a sense of humor she had. So sad. General Hospital will never be the same," actor Kin Shriner wrote. Executive Producer of 'General Hospital' Frank Valentini wrote in his tribute to the actress, "I am heartbroken about the loss of the incredible TheRealSonyaEd. I truly loved her not only as an actress but as a friend. The lights in the hub of the nurse’s station will now be a little dimmer, but her spirit and light will live on in both the show and our set. On behalf of the entire GH cast and crew, we send our deepest sympathy to her family, friends, and fans. She will be very missed".

Eddy used to post frequently on her Instagram account, sharing stories from her job as well as pictures of her pals. But she hadn't updated her Facebook since August, and the last thing she had uploaded was a trailer for her movie "Frank & Penelope."
