'Free Guy': Ryan Reynolds shares 'weirdly appropriate' new clip as release is pushed to December 11
As the relentless coronavirus pandemic sweeps the world, film studios have had to overhaul their entire schedules. Some pushed their films back by a few months while others delayed releases indefinitely. The entire Marvel Phase 4 has been delayed as 'Black Widow' will release only on November 6.
Among the films that were pushed back is the Ryan Reynolds action-comedy 'Free Guy'. The film was originally set to be released on July 3 this year but has now been pushed to December 11.
To soothe fans' nerves, Reynolds shared the first clip from the film on April 4. In the clip, Reynolds, who plays a video game character, is watching a news anchor talk about a series of horrific incidents and brutal crimes in the city. The news seems satirical in nature and makes fun of drive-by shootings, stabbings, and innocent people being murdered on the streets.
Fans noted that if the quarantine went on any longer, the news report might actually become a reality.
Reynolds tweeted, "Free Guy is moving to Dec. 11. Here's a clip that's weirdly appropriate and isn’t actually finished. We cut it a while ago (while there was still a “Fox” before @20thcentury. Ignore the watermarks. And huge thanks to #Aspect for cutting it."
Fans were disappointed and tweeted, "Summer 2020 is canceled."
Another wrote, "CORONA YOU TOOK IT TOO FAR."
"I feel like if the quarantine goes on any longer, we might actually all be listening to news reports like this eventually," tweeted another.
"I cannot wait for Free Guy. Gamers around the globe will be lining up around the block to see this," a fan tweeted.
Another fan wrote, "WHY DO WE HAVE TO WAIT SO MUCH LONGER FOR IT?! THE WAITING IS KILLING ME."
"What the freek'n hell.... #Freeguy in December," tweeted a fan.
Another fan noted that it would be a long time before they get to see the third installment of Reynold's film 'Deadpool'. "So with all these delays from Disney, it's probably going to be at least another 4-5 years at best before we see #Deadpool again? If ever?" They tweeted.
In 'Free Guy', Reynolds is an innocent bystander in an open-world, Grand Theft Auto-type video game who sees the real world after finding a pair of glasses.
Going by the trailer, 'Free Guy' looks like a typical Ryan Reynolds film—full of his trademark wit, humor and geeky references—that earned him his innumerable nominations for 'Deadpool' and 'Deadpool 2'. The film also stars Jodie Comer and Taika Waititi.
