'Absolutely awful': Former NHL star PK Subban slammed for making crude joke about Lizzo's weight
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA: PK Subban, a current hockey commentator for ESPN and a former NHL defenseman, has come under fire for making a nasty on-air joke while discussing Toronto's disappointing loss to Florida in Game 1 of the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. The Maple Leafs suffered a 4-2 home loss to the Panthers on Tuesday, May 2.
John Buccigross, the host of ESPN's postgame analysis, suggested that Toronto should "pack a lunch" following their disappointing defeat in an effort to have more energy ahead of Game 2 on Thursday, May 4, which was crucial. Although Subban agreed with Buccigross' point of view, the 2013 Norris Trophy winner made a crude joke about plus-size rapper Lizzo, according to Page Six.

'Subban should not be on ESPN as an analyst'
Subban, who has continued to focus on hockey after splitting from his ex-fiancee Lindsey Vonn, said, "Maybe they need to pack a Lizzo-sized lunch. They weren't prepared in my opinion," according to Page Six.
Many people have reacted to Subban's statement on Twitter with one person writing, "Subban should not be on ESPN as an analyst. He's absolutely awful." Another person wrote, "Well PK, it was nice while it lasted. There goes his TV time."
Another person tweeted in response, "The disgusting people enjoying PK Subban's comment about Lizzo are exactly WHY he should have kept his mouth shut."
The tweet continued, "I've been a PK fan and supporter from day one - but his recent comments on Pride and now this? I don't see him the same way anymore. This is not okay." A fourth person tweeted, "Sis Pk Subban really just say 'Lizzo sized lunch?' That's... not acceptable. That's fatphobic."

'People have been calling me fat my entire life'
The 'Good as Hell' singer, a renowned advocate of body positivity and the plus-sized community, recently discussed how her career has been impacted by people's perceptions of her figure. Lizzo said, "People have been calling me fat my entire life, but that was the first time seeing an insult of how I looked, who I am, and my music wrapped into one, and it really hurt me," according to Vanity Fair.
Lizzo added, "And if one person says it, then another person says it, it multiplies like a f*****g virus. If enough people on the internet start echoing sentiments about you, it becomes part of your public persona and it's out of your control."
However, individuals other than online trolls have made attempts to body shame the Grammy winner. Aries Spears and Kanye West were just two examples of the celebrities who Lizzo confronted in 2022 for making inappropriate comments about her weight.
