GRANT, COLORADO: Derek Wolfe, the Super Bowl 50 champion, revealed on his Instagram post that he used a bow and arrow to hunt and kill a large mountain lion in Colorado. Wolfe, 32, described the incident as "predator control" when he went mountain lion hunting on Tuesday, January 17. The former defensive lineman admitted that after the animal had been "wreaking havoc in a rural neighborhood" in Colorado, he had been requested to hunt it.

Wolfe, who likes to go hunting and routinely shares photos of his catches on Instagram, claimed in his post that the woman who contacted him was "nervous what it might do next" because the mountain lion had allegedly already killed two dogs and a mule deer. He claimed to have hiked over 9,600 feet into difficult terrain in search of the deer, which he assumed the large cat had killed, and that by that point he was "exhausted, dehydrated and cramping." Then the moment had arrived when he claimed to have discovered the animal, drawn his bow, and killed it with an arrow.

Wolfe then allegedly stated that in order to transport the carcass back to his truck, he had to crawl backwards down the mountain while pulling it with him. In the process, he allegedly fell 10 feet off a rock face. "Any guess how big this thing was?" he questioned his followers as he posted a photo of himself picking up the carcass.

Many Twitter users were amazed by the mountain lion's size, with one writing, "That cat is massive." Another person wrote, "Say whaaaaa?? That kitty as big as you bro! Nice work! Did it with a bow too! Pure! Love it!" A third person wrote, "Derek Wolfe is 6'5" & 300lbs - that cat is at least as big as he is! It is taking all his strength to hold it up."

However, some social media users weren't delighted with the kill and condemned him for the hunt. One person wrote, "I am all for hunting, used to hunt with my dad a lot, but we ate whatever we hunt... If you are not going to eat, dont hunt it." Another person wrote, "Ooh big man killing a cougar instead of having wildlife officers do THEIR JOB AND RELOCATE THE THING!"

"Glorifying a so-called tough guy taking out a majestically big and beautiful cat. Too bad the endangerment laws are not fully enforced in CO. And oh - keep your friggin dogs indoors at night," a third person wrote. "Dude did this for bragging rights! Who gives him the right to target this beautiful animal? Yeah, probably was a threat if folk let their pets run loose. Were any calls to state wildlife and game people - to trap animal and ship it elsewhere away from human population?" another person not happy about the hunt wrote.
