How Quibi's 'Floored' host Liza Koshy went from hilarious Vine star to international influencer on a mission
Liza Koshy has done it all and is well on her way to conquering the world. She has gone from a hilarious Vine maker to a YouTube sensation with around 17 million subscribers, a world-renowned influencer, model and now host of Quibi's upcoming comedic dance competition, 'Floored'.
When we say, Liza has done it all, it includes act, promote, produce, edit, write, direct, and host. The comedian and YouTube star has won four Streamy Awards, four Teen Choice Awards, and a Kids' Choice Award.
In 2019 she was also included in Forbes 30 Under 30 Hollywood & Entertainment list, Times' 25 Most Influential People on the Internet and its 100 Next list.
Liza also starred in the YouTube Premium series 'Liza on Demand'. She has hosted the Nickelodeon game show reboot 'Double Dare'. Liza is now embarking on a new journey as the host of 'Floored'.
'Floored' revolves around two teams of dancers who battle it out on an insane dance floor. They try performing their best in an already rehearsed routine on a dance floor that has a life of its own.
The dance floor lifts, tilts, drops, shakes and spins to the music. That's not all, the dancers will also have to dodge obstacles that will be thrown their way when least expected.
Liza without a doubt will be the perfect host for this comedic dance show, as we all can vouch for the comedian who hosts dance parties of one in her living room. But apart from being a comedian, Liza has come a long way.
Though she cracks jokes and creates funny content, Liza also uses her platform for other things she cares about. She uses her humor to imbibe a vital message along with her content. In an interview with Teen Vogue, Liza opened up about how she loves promoting the things she loves for the world's betterment.
"What started as boredom is now very intentionally using and promoting things that I love, things for the betterment of the world we believe in. I was sharing my story, and that's how people related to me, but it's kind of our story. That has been super exciting for me to realize that it's about us as a whole. I'm excited to share how I'm doing my part so that I can encourage others to do their parts too."
Liza paired up with Alicia Keyes to encourage college students to vote in Dallas. By becoming more aware of what's happening, Liza is changing that awareness into action. And her work doesn't go unnoticed.
When Liza was included in Times' Next 100 list, Alicia praised her in the article saying she's, "a self-starter, an entrepreneur, fiercely smart and an empathetic soul. Liza is very in touch with what’s happening in the world around her, and a visionary in terms of what people will relate to. There’s no limit to what she can accomplish and create. In five or 10 years, we’re going to be blown away—even more than we already are."
Through her work, Liza also inspires many people of different ages to pursue their dreams. She is someone even young people look up to, In an interview with Cheatsheet, Liza opened up about how she bonded with a young Vietnamese girl over parental support.
"I’ve actually kept in touch with [one]. I follow her on Instagram. She’s an artist, 16 years old and she’s so sweet. She’s drawing every single day. Her parents weren’t always supportive of it which is how we related because my parents weren’t actually supportive of me when I first started out being a creator. So it was really cool to tell her hey, you’re going to be all right.”
Apart from this Liza has done a lot of other great inspiring work, and that includes her YouTube special with 'Creators for Change' where she sat down with Michelle Obama and other influencers and spoke about girls' education.
The most interesting part about Liza and her platform is that she built it all by herself right from the start. She knows how to get to people of this specific generation. She knows how to make videos that are engaging and not preachy. She knows how to keep it fun, lighthearted and still instills a message in it.
Talking about it in the same interview with Teen Vogue, she said, "A goal a lot of content creators nowadays have is to keep it quick, short, to the point, but have the message, have the entertainment value, and keep it fun and lighthearted. A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down. That's the best way to drive home a message, social commentary, or anything like that."
With Liza creating change one step at a time, we cannot wait to see what she comes up with next. And for that, we can't wait to see her host Quibi's upcoming series 'Floored'.
