First look of Jon M Chu's 'Wicked' reveals Ariana Grande and Cynthia Eviro as witches
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Universal Pictures has shared the first set of photos for its highly-anticipated film adaptation of the beloved musical 'Wicked', featuring Grammy-winning artists Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo. Director Jon M Chu took to Twitter to reveal the initial glimpses of Grande and Erivo in their roles as witches Glinda and Elphaba, respectively. The photos offer a sneak peek of Grande in a magnificent pink gown and Erivo in her character's iconic long black dress and witch hat. The production of 'Wicked' is currently underway in England, and fans eagerly await more updates and sneak peeks of the highly anticipated movie.
Universal Pictures has recently confirmed that the long-awaited film adaptation of the acclaimed Broadway musical 'Wicked' will be split into two parts. The project is being led by director Jon M Chu, who has ample experience in the musical genre, having directed movies like 2015's 'Jem and the Holograms' and 2021's 'In the Heights'. Chu is also slated to helm the animated musical adaptation of Dr Seuss' beloved children's book, 'Oh, The Places You'll Go!'. On Sunday, he shared two distinct pictures on Instagram. One featured Grande in the role of Glinda, and the other showcased Erivo as Elphaba. He added a caption to the post, teasing fans with the question, "What happens when you veer off the Yellow Brick Road? FIRST LOOK of the #WickedMovie … currently in production in Oz"
With Chu at the helm, there is a great deal of anticipation surrounding the musical, and fans can't wait to see how he brings the story to life.

In the first look photos released by Universal Pictures, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo are seen as the Good Witch of the North, Glinda Upland, and the Wicked Witch of the West, Elphaba Throbb, respectively. Erivo's acting career began in stage musicals such as 'Sister Act' and 'The Color Purple', for which she received critical acclaim and a Tony Award for Best Leading Actress. Grande, on the other hand, makes her debut as the lead in a major feature film with this movie, having previously appeared briefly in Adam McKay's star-studded comedy 'Don't Look Up'. Before achieving global pop stardom, Grande first gained recognition for her portrayal of Cat Valentine on Nickelodeon's teen sitcom 'Victorious'.
The first part of 'Wicked' is pinned for release on November 17, 2024, followed by the second chapter in 2025.
