Mod Sun smiles as concertgoers chant 'f*** Tyga' after his split with ex-fiancee Avril Lavigne

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Mod Sun, who is currently grieving the split from his former fiancee Avril Lavigne, received immense support from fans during his concert at Irving Plaza in New York City on Wednesday, March 16. As the ‘Billionaire’ singer Travie McCoy took to the concert stage to share his bitterness toward his friend’s ex-girlfriend, the crowd joined him to reciprocate the sentiment.

Former ‘Gym Class Heroes’ frontman McCoy took to the stage to say he has known Mod, whose real name is Derek Ryan Smith, to be “one of the most loyal dudes." He also did not let the opportunity pass as he yelled “F**k Tyga!” referring to Avril’s latest love interest with whom she reportedly hooked up days after her calling off the engagement with Mod.

Surprised by the turn of events, Mod ran to the back of the stage, smiling, when the fans too joined the bandwagon in support and started chanting McCoy’s choice of profanity for the Canadian singer’s new lover, Tyga. At the end of February, it was reported that the ‘Girlfriend’ singer, Avril Lavigne called off her engagement with Mod Sun. However, what came off as a surprise was her allegedly quick shift to Tyga. 

Why did Mod Sun and Avril break up?

Though it has not been confirmed by either of the two sources, it has been reported that Avril’s new romance with Tyga might have caused the breakup. The duo who recently collaborated together for a song ‘Avril’s Song’, were in an almost three-year relationship and a one-year engagement before they split. Mod took to Instagram to share with his fans the pain he is going through. Sharing a mirror selfie of himself in a white vest, he captioned, “In 1 week my entire life completely changed…I just know there’s a plan for it all. 💔”. The ‘Flames’ singer, who is on a tour from February 19 to April 2, further added, “Being surrounded by love every night on tour has been an absolute blessing. I have the best friends in the entire world, thanks for always having my back. See you on stage." 

On February 21, Avril’s representative confirmed their breakup. However, a representative of Mod was also found saying, the pair "were together and engaged as of three days ago when he left for tour so if anything has changed, that's news to him," as per E! News.

During the Paris Fashion Week earlier this month, Avril was seen locking lips with the ‘Legendary’ singer at Mugler X Hunter Schafer Party in Paris Fashion Week confirming her new romance. Avril and Tyga were also seen hugging in the parking lot after having dinner at NOBU, as per TMZ.

'Get over, man!'

The Internet was in splits as the news of McCoy's chanting broke. While some of the fans sided with Mod, there were many who criticized him for acting like a child. One Avril fan chided, "He's so childish and green. Can't wait for him to be back to being no one as he was before Flames came out. He owes his success to Avril and now he's desperate to cling to fame somehow. Simply pathetic." While another said, "So he's not over her, is mad someone else has her and needs to harp on it by pretending not to care while simultaneously proving he cares a whole lot! Classic!"

One fan supported, "Lmao loom at these comments... it wasn't even Mod who said a damn thing. Yet here you all are dragging him smfh. He hasn't made a comment about her or Tyga through this tour.. and you saying get over it like none of you were salty when your SO did you dirty."
