Internet outraged after Alec Baldwin to resume filming 'Rust' with Halyna Hutchins' husband as producer!
SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO: Alec Baldwin’s film, 'Rust', will resume filming in January 2023 after a settlement was reached with the family of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, who Baldwin accidentally shot dead on the sets of the film in 2021.
As per Deadline, during a rehearsal scene on October 21, 2021, Baldwin fired a prop gun after being told it was “cold.” While director Joel Souza was injured when the bullet hit his shoulder; Hutchins died. The family of the deceased then filed a wrongful death lawsuit on February 15, which named both Baldwin and Rust Movie Productions. Though the settlement details were not disclosed, Matthew Hutchins, husband of the cinematographer said on October 5, “our case will be dismissed,” and added that he will step in as executive producer.

In a statement, as reported by Deadline, he said, "We have reached a settlement, subject to court approval, for our wrongful death case against the producers of Rust, including Alec Baldwin and Rust Movie Productions, LLC. As part of that settlement, our case will be dismissed. The filming of Rust, which I will now executive produce, will resume with all the original principal players on board in January 2023. I have no interest in engaging in recriminations or attribution of blame (to the producers or Mr. Baldwin). All of us believe Halyna’s death was a terrible accident. I am grateful that the producers and the entertainment community have come together to pay tribute to Halyna’s final work.”
Following this update, netizens stepped in to share their mixed views. Many couldn't believe the film is being resumed and called it a bad idea. One said, "Y’all…scrap the production. Do not make the movie. Accept the loss. This is a bad idea." While one more wrote, "Resume? No, no, no. This is cursed, there is only one course that is safe and it does not include finishing the movie. This is a very bad idea." Another pointed out by saying, "Money solves everything! Buries the dead even deeper."

However, many backed the news and Alec Baldwin. One of them said, "Alec Baldwin is not to be blamed for shooting the Producer. It was the responsibility of the person in charge of the guns. They shouldn’t ever of had real guns on a set of a movie anyway! The gun handler and producer are to Blame and only them!" A user commented, "Not to ruffle any feathers, but I truly believe the Alec Baldwin incident was a horrific and tragic accident. But, an accident nevertheless." One of many, stressing on Hutchins' last work, said, "I was on the fence about the release but now that they are moving forward with filming I believe her work should be seen. It would be a shame to throw her work away."
