LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: A serial killer and our favorite detective? Things just got interesting! Idris Elba's Detective John Luther is returning in a Netflix continuation of the acclaimed BBC crime series 'Luther'. The movie, 'Luther: The Fallen Sun' which will debut in theatres on Friday, February 24, will be available on Netflix on Friday, March 10.

Between 2010 and 2019, five seasons of 'Luther' were released which saw Elba win two Golden Globes for the part. Jamie Payne, who was in charge of the show's fifth season, is directing the Netflix film. The screenplay of the film is written by Neil Cross who also wrote the BBC series. Martin Schenk is played once again by Dermot Crowley. The cast also includes Cynthia Erivo and Andy Serkis. Fans are hyped up on social media ever since Netflix released the trailer of the upcoming crime drama.

What is the plot of 'Luther: The Fallen Sun'?

The movie, scheduled to release next month, begins with a serial murderer terrorizing London while Luther sits dishonorably behind bars, haunted by his failure to apprehend a cybercriminal. In an effort to crack the case, he breaks out of jail. Blimey, right? The official movie's synopsis reads, "Brilliant but disgraced detective John Luther breaks out of prison to hunt down a sadistic serial killer who is terrorizing London." 

'My mind is exploding right now' 

Looks like the upcoming crime drama has been able to create a lot of hype with its trailer. After Netflix released the official trailer of the movie 'Luther: The Fallen Sun', fans quickly took to social media to show their excitement.

One fan tweeted, "My mind is exploding right now ! 🤯 The trailer is superb. It releases on March 10th, 129 minutes, rated R. #IdrisElba at his best, #London, pure dark thriller. It's gonna be monumental. Please. please watch it, watch the entire series. It's amazing." Fans compared the trailer to giving them 'James Bond' vibes. One user tweeted, "Whait! Luther or James Bond? 🤯😍OMG." Another fan went on to say, "Idris should be Bond for at least a Trilogy, is this ask too much ?"
