Will Smith's fans say they are done with 'trauma porn' after actor pops up in 'Emancipation' trailer
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Will Smith had faced a lot of criticism earlier this year at the 2022 Academy Awards for the unfortunate event which will now forever be known as the Oscars Slapgate. But Smith has always been one of the few Black A-list actors who is a bankable leading man when it comes to realistic films and biopics. But it seems like that tide is turning. Fans are not too fond of the theme of the upcoming Smith movie 'Emancipation' despite its gritty realism. Although some fans are rooting for it, others seem to not want "another slave movie."
'Emancipation' is a historical action thriller film directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by William N Collage. The film stars Smith, Ben Foster, and Charmaine Bingwa. The film had its first screening in Washington, DC on October 1, 2022, and is scheduled to be released in select cinemas on December 2, 2022, before its streaming release on December 9, 2022, by Apple TV+. The running time of the movie is going to be 132 minutes while having Smith as Peter the main protagonist of the film. That is not all, huge banners like Warner Bros, MGM, Lionsgate, and Universal Pictures bid on the film before Apple ultimately won the distribution rights for over 130 million dollars.

The film's trailer dropped recently and fans seemed underwhelmed at best with the theme of the film. A fan said, "Another slave movie?? Who keeps asking for these? Are there no other stories we can tell," while another wrote, "bro they never make this much movies about other races' trauma, i love Will but i'll pass on this trauma porn." A fan said, "I’m gonna watch. But I’m tired of slave movies." A fan inquired, "I have no doubt Will Smith killed it is his role, or that the cinematography is on point, and the movie will be powerful in some form... but this gotta be THE last dramatic slave movie. I don't even know who they are making these films for anymore. White guilt? Black trauma?" A fan shared, "I refuse to watch another slave movie..downright refuse," while another added, "Not another slave movie."

Regardless, the movie is all set for its release despite all the drama it stirred regarding the release date. In May 2022, the film's release was delayed to a possible 2023 date. The reasons given were many — production delays, the controversy over Smith slapping Chris Rock at the 94th Academy Awards and an overcrowded film release schedule from Apple. It was subsequently moved to its December 2022 date.
