Evan Rachel Wood SLAMMED for comparing Amber Heard's infamy to 'rapist' Harvey Weinstein

Wood said the 2015 picture of her and Amber Heard 'proved' nothing, just like a picture with Weinstein didn't make someone a rapist

Evan Rachel Wood faced backlash after she appeared to distance herself from Amber Heard shortly after posting a report about Heard being a victim of 'targeted trolling' during her highly publicized defamation trial with ex-husband Johnny Depp.

The 'Westworld' star, 34, raised eyebrows as she commented on Heard's treatment on social media. But some fans were disappointed after she seemingly compared Heard to Harvey Weinstein in one of her posts, which has since been taken down. Wood is currently being sued by her ex, Marilyn Manson after she accused him of domestic abuse during their relationship. The singer continues to vehemently deny the allegations.

Wood took to Instagram on July 20 to share a report about how social media reacted to Heard throughout her courtroom drama with Depp. This came after it was reported that Depp supporters were turning on Wood as she was branded by some trolls as 'Amber Heard 2.0'. Wood shared the findings from a report by Bot Sentinel, a group dedicated to exposing online bots and how they are used. Speaking of Heard's case, the report "observed [...] one of the worst cases of cyberbullying and cyberstalking by a group of Twitter accounts that we've ever seen," explaining that 627 accounts were apparently created for the sole purpose of mocking or otherwise targeting Heard and her supporters during the trial. The same report also noted that Wood was facing a similar bot attack following her allegations against Manson, who is known to be a good friend of Depp.

On July 21, Wood shared screenshots of a Newsweek report on her Instagram activity, claiming that headlines such as "Evan Rachel Wood Seemingly Supports Amber Heard Following Trial Verdict" were putting her in danger. "If you are worried about my feed being flooded with hate, then I would steer clear of headlines that put me in danger, such as these, which are not based on facts," she wrote on her Instagram story. "No matter what I say it WILL be taken out of context," she added in a follow-up story. "And since social media has proven time and again NOT to be the place to have nuanced conversations, and the media wants clickbait, especially when you speak out against abuse, I will reinstate my original comment about my stance on the matter, which was 'no comment'," she said.

Wood posted two more stories which she later deleted. Those featured photos of her with Heard at an event years ago. "Oh look a photo from 2015 that keeps circulating trying to 'prove' something. When in actuality this photo was taken at an event honoring my stylist, who also styled JD," she commented. "I arrived alone and was seated at this table. With certain logic, everyone who was seen in a photo with Weinstein would have to be a rapist," Wood added.

Her comments sparked quite the backlash on social media, with many slamming her for comparing Heard's infamy to Weinstein, who is a convicted rapist. "Evan Rachel Wood: whatever you say about your IG stories being taken out of context, it looks like you're calling Amber an abuser, and you're comparing her to Weinstein," said journalist Eve Barlow, a vocal supporter of Heard, tweeted. "All the best with your case. I'm sure you're terrified but this is not it," she added. "The support Amber gave Evan vs what she gets in return. Amber, I am so sorry," one Twitter user wrote. "What in the world did Evan Rachel Wood think she has to gain by posting that?" another wondered.

Wood publicly named Manson as her alleged abuser in an Instagram post on February 1, 2021. She claimed that Manson, whose real name is Brian Warner, had "horrifically abused [her] for years" and that she was "brainwashed and manipulated" by him. Manson has strongly denied the accusations and since launched a defamation lawsuit against Wood over her 'Phoenix Rising' documentary about her allegations, Newsweek reported.
