Eva Longoria as director of 'Flamin' Hot'

The development of 'Flamin' Hot' was announced in 2018, and Longoria was signed on as the project's director in 2019. Longoria beat out a number of other directors who were interested in collaborating on the project, according to Deadline. The film centers on the life of Richard Montanez, a former janitor at a Frito-Lay factory who claimed to have invented the Flamin' Hot Cheetos and convinced the firm to alter its marketing strategies. However, a Los Angeles Times piece that was published in 2021 cast doubt on the assertion of his purported proposal. Jesse Garcia agreed to star in the movie in May 2021, along with actors Dennis Haysbert, Tony Shalhoub, and Matt Walsh. Filming finally came to an end in August of that year after physical production had begun.

'Flamin' Hot': An inspiration for aspiring filmmakers

In an interview, Longoria recently discussed the movie 'Flamin' Hot' and said she was glad she could share an inspirational story, according to People. "You look at this guy and you go, "Oh wait, he did that. So that means I can do that." This is a hero. He's not wearing a cape, but man, is this story powerful," Longoria said. The actress also mentioned how excited she was to transition from working on television to movies.

"I think it was like I had so much to prove and I really took that challenge on in every aspect," she said. Longoria continued by saying that she wants to serve as an inspiration for anyone wishing to start a career as a filmmaker. "I was nervous about the responsibility...and at the same time, the whole reason I wanted to direct and produce was to give opportunities to other women and people of color behind the camera,"  she stated.

'Flamin' Hot' will officially release on June 9 on Hulu after its March 11 debut at the South by Southwest festival this year.
