Esquire ropes in K-pop idols BTOB Minhyuk and SF9 Dawon for FIFA 22 tournament
It shouldn’t be a surprise anymore if we see K-pop in other fields from fashion to food and sports. It is one of the biggest music industries in the world and the leading cultural asset of South Korea. Its influence is pretty evident as the loyal fanbases always have their artists’ back. So, it’s no wonder that other industries are roping in these trendsetters to promote their business. And now idols like BTOB’s Minhyuk and SF9’s Dawon are set to play FIFA 22.
We had the likes of the K-pop Olympics with the introduction of ISAC and its eSports edition while Sunmi created a theme song to root for DWG KIA during the League of Legends world championship last month. This year’s Olympics, which was held in Japan had an impressive setlist that played iconic K-pop songs by the likes of Ateez, BTS and ONF. And now, Esquire Korea had introduced a K-pop version of FIFA 22's tournament that has players like hip hop veterans BIG Naughty and Code Kunst to idols like BTOB's Minhyuk and SF9's Dawon.

Best FIFA 22 artist player
The Korean version of the men’s magazine has introduced an eSports section with the launch of the 2022 edition of FIFA. The football video game is one of the most popular games in South Korea. Gaming arcades are full of young Koreans playing similar video games while idols are also seen playing such online games in their free time. With eSport video games being a popular hobby, Esquire Korea will be hosting a celebrity tournament where the players will be playing the newly launched FIFA 22.
The artist players are:
BIG Naughty - he has teamed up with GQ Korea for the Lacoste x Peanuts collaboration.
Code Kunst - he is a producer on the ongoing rap survival show ‘Show Me The Money 10’.
SF9’s Dawon - he had been roped in for the cover of Men’s Health magazine but had to cancel upon contracting Covid-19.
Ha Sungwoon - the soloist was previously in the news for leaving his agency after releasing one final album.
Layone - he shared a sneak-peak of his upcoming song on Esquire Korea.
BTOB’s Minhyuk - he is currently preparing for his upcoming solo ‘Good Night’.
NuckSal - he was recently awarded the ‘Male Multi-Entertainer’ award at the 2021 Brand of the Year Awards.
Woo Wonjae - he was on the survival show ‘Girls Planet 999’ as a mentor where a team performed his iconic song ‘We Are’.
Where to watch?
The tournament will be aired every Wednesday and Friday at 7 pm KST (6 am ET) on Esquire Korea’s YouTube channel beginning from November 3. The first match of November 5 is between BTOB’s Minhyuk and Code Kunst at 7 pm KST (6 am ET).
