‘Girls Planet 999’ Episode 9 Recap: Special missions, interim ranks and sports day
After the second elimination round, the teams changed in Mnet's ‘Girls Planet 999’ episode 9. Team Snake had 9 members remaining. Since it only needed 7, two of the girls had to leave. Suyeon tried all the parts but didn’t get any. The killing part went to Xiaoting. Youngeun wanted to be the main vocalist but it went to Su Ruiqi who hit the high note despite her throat being in a bad condition.
Team Utopia had 6 remaining girls and needed only 6. But since Xiyin had left due to health reasons, the team was brought down to 5 members only. Yeseo was voted for the killing part. Bora got the main vocal. Xingqiao lost confidence as Shana tried for the vocalist and cried. However, she got the part with Shana being voted out.

‘Girls Planet 999’ Episode 7 Recap: Performances and winners of Combination Mission
Creation Mission teams
Only 4 girls survived in Team U+Me=Love. They needed 7 total. They had lost the main vocals and the girls selected for the killing parts. Youngeun, Suyeon and Shana joined them as the original teammates cheered them. But Suyeon wasn’t confident because she had only done fierce performances. The new girls tried out for the killing part with Suyeon getting it. Team Shoot had 7 girls and the team needed only 7. They had also selected different parts which worked in their favor and so they could resume practice smoothly without reassigning parts or kicking out teammates.
Planet Teamwork Mission
The girls also got to go outside for special missions as they had to put on a show at their assigned destinations. Team Shoot was taken to a fan’s house. The fan also happens to be Dayeon’s mom. She showed them her daughter’s room with the girls leaving letters for Dayeon. They then performed ‘Shoot’ for the mother. Everyone got teary-eyed as she acknowledged their hard work. And as a reward, they were treated to a meal at Dayeon’s father’s sushi restaurant.
Team Snake was taken to a farm. Their first mission was to pick sweet potatoes with Wenzhe winning. For the next mission, they had to pick chilis. To keep things fun, Wenzhe got the girls to show off their charms by MCing and singing while completing their tasks. Dayeon was also surprised as Team Shoot FaceTimed from her home with her mom. Team Snake then performed for the people at the farm as they sang ‘Snake’ and a trot song. Cai Bing then moved the girls to tears as she thanked Dayeon for leading the team and taking care of the older Chinese girls.
Team U+Me=Love was taken to an orthopaedic clinic where they got massages for their joints. They then FaceTimed Team Snake who got jealous that the girls were having a luxurious lunch after a massage while they were working on the farm. But then it was revealed that Team U+Me=Love had to perform on a narrow bridge at the height of 555 metres. And even though Mashiro is scared of heights they got through it without a hitch.
Finally, Team Utopia had to hike a mountain and perform at the peak. As a reward, they were then given a chance to paraglide. During Yurina and Xiangqiao’s turn, there was a sudden change in the course of the wind. But after a while, they too succeeded. The girls then bonded with Xiangqiao mentioning that she was touched that Bora had learned Chinese from Wenzhe to help her.
The interim ranking
On the day before the final performance, the girls got ready for the final rehearsal. And in between, there was a rank announcement. MC Jingoo announced that after the next elimination round, from the 26 girls, only 17 girls would remain. The rankings from #18 were then announced. These were interim or temporary rankings that will change after the viewers voted.

The girls who ranked from #9 to #1 would be the interim TOP9:
9 - Shana. She is in the TOP9 for the first time.

6 - Yujin. She fell from #1 to #2 in the K group.
5 - Yurina. She went from #1 to #3 in the J group.
4 - Mashiro
3 - Hikaru
2 - Dayeon
1 - Xiaoting
Hikaru from the J group and Dayeon from the K group reclaimed their #1 individual ranking that they had when they first entered the survival show. Xiaoting has been #1 in the C group from the beginning. The remaining girls who were not in the top 17 were shaken up. Round 3 voting ends on October 9 at 10 am KST (October 8 at 9 pm ET) with viewers allowed to vote for individual girls. The 9 lowest-ranked girls will be eliminated regardless of their country group i.e. K (South Korea), J (Japan) and C (China) group. ‘Girls Planet 999’ has also invited viewers to suggest a name for the debut group. Suggestions will be accepted for a week.
Sports day
To lighten up the sombre mood, Mnet then released a fields day segment that had taken place before the 54 girls had gone through round 2 of eliminations. Tammy, Ririka and Bora were the MCs for the mini sports day. Sunmi and the dance mentors joined as team captains. Juhee was with the C group, Koo-young was with the J group and Sunmi joined the K group. The 1st game was the one-legged fight. Koo-young and Wenzhe started off the game with the K group winning. The 2nd game was tug-of-war. J group won the three-way match.
The second match was between K and C groups with the latter winning as the K group fell. The 3rd game was a relay race. J group won. While Cai Bing fell at first, the C group caught up and was 2nd. The final winners were then announced. J group were first place and won fleece jackets. C group was 2nd and got cosmetic sets. K group was third and got monogrammed towels.
Preview of episode 10
In the preview of episode 10, we get a glimpse of the performances for the Creation Mission. The mentors point out that all the #1 girls are in Team Snake. However, they were not happy with the team’s interim performance and Xiaoting’s singing. Jingoo then announced that the winners would get double benefit points. And the next mission would be announced before the third round of eliminations. Episode 10 will air on October 8 at 8:20 pm KST (7:20 am ET) on Mnet's channel and YouTube channel.
